The 1st time I read this I cried...
9 months pregnant but still. This story is so touching and was the best gift for a soon to be older sibling. Illustrations are pretty and my child enjoys reading it again and again.

Really good but...
I love this book - it's very sweet and my 18 month old is very interested in both the illustrations and the story line. My one complaint is that it is bookended with the notion that perhaps one day other children will come along, but it doesn't explore that topic any further. I bought this thinking it was going to help my daughter understand the notion of what it will mean when the next kid comes along - but it really stops right at the mention of it being a possibility.

Great book to prep for baby #2
Loved reading this to my 2 year old while pregnant with his brother. It made me cry!! I do think it helped prepare him for becoming a big brother and also emphasizing how important he is to me and how much I love him. I read this to him every time he lets me!

Very nice, quality book. Sweet pictures. My daughter loves it.
My 3.5yo is STILL having a hard time adjusting to her 8mo sister. She loves this book. I think it has helped some. I think it would be good before a baby comes or after (when we got it). I love the pictures. The only downfall is that some of the things are kind of oddly specific like, "You were the first to wear the red snowsuit" ... I just read, "...to wear a snowsuit" My girl would latch on to this, "Mama, we don't have a red snowsuit!?" So I change the words. And as another reviewer noted, there's a dog, so if you don't have a dog... that could be kinda weird too. And a garden. But the idea is SUPER. The book is a nice hardback, quality print. Nice paper. I really like it.

My first born had been wanting a sibling for years! When I was finally pregnant he got cold feet and started to get upset about being left out and not getting any attention. I bought this to help, what a lovely story, it helped with preparation and reassuring our son that he was just as important as his new brother and how it was him that made us parents. He loved it - he is 6, his brother is 3 months old now and they are inseparable. He never feels left out or any resentment. This book gave us lots of ideas, talking points and allowed my eldest to talk about his feelings. Well worth buying if you have a young child who is apprehensive of having a new baby in the family. It has such a wonderful message about the first born child, makes them feel so loved and important. It definitely did the trick.

Such a wonderful book if you have a second (or third) child coming into the family. My daughter asked to read this book for a month straight when we brought home her sister. Beautiful artwork and simple enough for a 2 year old enough to enjoy but a keepsake for years to come.
