Greatread
I assume the more familiar you are with Steiners works, the easier the concepts in this book will be to grasp. Not a very easy read but very insightfull and exiting Bible study.

Mystical path of Esoteric Christianity
The Gospel of John speaks more about the Christ being than the Jesus individuality and you will travel through a profound cosmology to grasp the context out of which John was written. John, also known as Lazarus, was the only one of the disciples to have been initiated by Christ himself in the body; therefore he is able to address the deeper mysteries of the transformation of the 'I am' from it's cosmic origins to it's ultimate purpose in human evolution. Essential reading for the esoteric student of Christianity.

the only guy who seems to understand John's Gospel
I remember in college studying the new testament and the general attitude towards the gospel of St. John-- which was that John was a confusing gospel and no one really understands it. Well someone does! His name is Rudolf Steiner :) Seriously, this book intensely reinvigorated my interest in the gospels and Christianity as a whole. I read it through twice, the second time with the gospel in front of me. Essential Steiner!

Occult trash
Pretty rotten book. Rudolf Steiner's Gospel of St. John. His wife claims he had a personal transcendental experience with The Christ. The book is on esoteric Christianity or the hidden meaning of Christ coming into the world as he did. My heart did not sing reading this. A boring rehash of occult literature (Lemuria, Atlantis) on the evolution of consciousness or the epochs of the soul and our descent into matter and our return. In a nutshell, Christ descended at just the right time so as to give us that upward thrust to return to the Father. Without that act, we would have been immersed or trapped in gross matter forever. This is Steiner's delusion. While I agree that John is radically different from the Synoptics, certainly there must be a more intelligible spiritual exposition on this interesting gnostic work. Having just recently read the Jesus Seminar's "The Five Gospels" and Vermes's "The Authentic Jesus", I am reluctant to discard John as an inauthentic gospel...so I will keep on looking.
