Grizzly Industrial H7693 - Deep Plug Cutter 6 Pc. Set

Amateur Woodworker. Wanted Cedar 3/4" plugs for an outdoor sofa instead of just a hardwood plug. Reading the reviews, seemed like most people were satisfied with these. Since the price was a little more than double than a single plug cutter, I figured I'd give them a try and get a whole set. Within a half hour of delivery, I cut 8 plugs and they are perfect. Smooth cut and snug in the 3/4" hole drilled with a forstner bit.

Very solid set of cutters. The wood box ws pretty flimsy, but I re-glued it and tightened it up all the away around with my 22ga pin nailer. Also gave the wood a coat of pure toung oil, and sprayed the cutters thoroughly with "Tri-Flow" which leaves a teflon coating when it dries. The cutters are sharp, very heavy and solid and for the money I think very well worth it.

I've got a shop full of Grizzly Industrial tools. These cutters are sharp and pretty good, albeit the 7/8" bit broke on its first use. I'm pretty sure it was a manufacturing defect as it wobbled badly. (More on that below) Keep in mind that these are straight and "deep" cutters, so you can get a 2"+ tenon with them. But, that means that they are NOT tapered. If you want a tapered plug, this in the wrong style.Warranty Issues: Grizzly tools have a 1 year warranty. When I called Grizzly, they were more than willing to warranty it but didn't have any inventory that contained that bit. They referred me to the seller, Adventurer's Bag. Skipping the gory details, they finally said I had to return it through Amazon. They failed to mention that since it was past the 30 day return window, I had to CALL Amazon to accomplish that. Thankfully, Amazon was good about it. I'll replace these tools through the Grizzly.com website. It's $24 cheaper and their customer service has always been excellent.

I used the 3/4" cutter last night to turn both ends of a 1" oak dowel into a 3/4" tenon, to replace a chair part. Even with the drill press it was a fairly tricky cut, but it came out very well. Nice and clear, even in the oak end grain. The box, although inexpensively made, is a nice touch to keep the bits organized.I am very pleased with this set so far.

The 7/8 bit broke the first time I used it. Grizzly would not replace it. I would not recommend buying anything from them.

I was restoring an antique cabinet - which at some point had been 'cobbled' back together with cut nails. When I pulled the nails - I plugged the holes with matching wood so that the wood grain would match and run cross-grain (as opposed to a dowel). Then I redrilled the hole through the plug for treenails.

I guess that because these plug cutters came from Grizzly I shouldn't be surprised that they were very high quality. They cut through hard wood like it was butter. If you need these cutters check out the Grizzly web site, they're $20 LESS!

This is the perfect kit. It has all the most important cutter you ever need.I only used it on soft wood yet but I am sure it will work on all others.They are well crafted and come in a wood box for safe keeping.

Cutters are accurate to sizes and cut very cleanly,A must have for wood finishing.

This set works great. Bits are very sharp and the plugs are the size they're supposed to be. Can't ask for more than that
