Guinness World Records 2012 Mass Market Paperback – March 27, 2012

I have been buying these for my son as a Christmas gift for about 10 years (he's 30 now and has come to expect them each year). He really enjoys both reading and collecting the books. I have also found out that I paid too much by making the mistake of buying this book a few of the early years from a bookstore or even Walmart for much more than Amazon charges for it. I never get my books anywhere but Amazon anymore. The prices and quick shipping (plus free shipping when available) cannot be beat by any other retailer, brick & mortar or online.

i've been an enthusiast of the guiness book of world records since i was VERY young. i used to spend countless hours perusing the annual records books - memorizing often useless details. it turned out that, over the decades, many of those details have been useful, especially at parties and social gatherings. several times the information has been useful in academic settings. imagine how thrilled i was when my children both expressed an interest in the guiness book of world records. the format changed some years ago - it's much easier to read, page through, perhaps it has a few less records but it has bigger, brighter, and more photogenic images that grab the attention of kids! year after year, it's not significantly different. most of us can go 2-3 years without a new volume. the quality of the information, images, and the books itself is outstanding. this book, this year, is my effort to encourage my son to read a bit more. i give everything a grade, and i believe that this merits a solid "A". i believe that the guiness book of world records is excellent in detail and quality, and ought to be considered essential to public libraries, school libraries, and homes of individuals with an interest in "trivia".

Details are better than the picture and great pictures

Well, here it is. The 2012 version of the Guinness Book of Records. Much of this is silly and baroque. Still, so much fun!The very first record in this volume? The largest object lifted by helium balloons (in this case, a house). The last? The most layered bed-of nails sandwich (difficult to explain, but a little different!).In between are myriad records, many of which are of little moment (such as most wins of the mashed potato wrestling championships). Others: Greatest distance pushing a mini scooter; Most times climbing to Mount Everest's summit; First wedding conducted by a robot; Busiest railroad station; Most expensive bridge; Longest running children's magazine; Longest serving TV host; Most wins in a WNBA season.So, are you interested in world records of a particular sort? Then this book will be enjoyable reading for you.

I have to give this five stars because of the look on my granddaughter's face when she opened the package on Christmas eve. She's eight and she loves odd statistics and she just whooped and hugged the book! Then she started reading us some of the grosser ones. lol! For the right age group, this is a fantastic gift. I would have preferred the great old yellow-covered one with the old-fashioned line drawings that was as distinctive as an almanac. This one, while a solid quality book with tons of photos and information to keep the reader totally engrossed, looks like any other nice gift book - from the cover, at least. But I'm probably just getting old; my granddaughter loved it and no doubt kept my daughter and son-in-law up all night quoting from it.

This is another book I purchase for my nephew every year as a Christmas gift. I do read it and find it AMAZING that so much information is recorded inside. I didn't think I would find more interesting world records as the 2011 edition but I was wrong. There are much more interesting world records and I love the detailed photos. Looking forward to 2013's edition! I recommended for any age; young or old.

My children enjoyed reading the book (young teenager and under 11). It has nice picture and is more of a coffee table book than a dictionary style book that I remembered. I'm not sure if there is another book out there that is more Webster Thesaurus style with indexed records and paperback size, but would like one if it exists.It also seemed like there were a lot of 'World Records" missing in this version. again, its a rather large book with lots of pictures, but lacking the informational substance or number of records that I'm sure are out there and not listed in this book.Pretty book, but disappointing - style over substance..

This family LOVES these books, and they have been a Christmas tradition for about 20 years now! Each year I have to be more creative so that these books are absolutely the last packages handed out - because immediately everything else must stop while the search for one thing or another starts - and all is quiet for a few minutes before laughter and calls of "look on this page" begin! And each person has to get their own copy of the book - so I usually wrap a large box or gift bag addressed to me, and hold onto it until the very end of all gifting - even though now everyone anticipates the books!

Das Buch war in einem super Zustand und die Sprache war englisch!! Der Händler war so lieb und hat es wieder zurückgenommen, da mein Sohn noch kein Englisch in der Schule hatte und ganz enttäuscht war, weil er es net lesen konnte..Ich hatte mich beim Kauf vertan mit der Sprache!Aber der Händler war sehr nett und deshalb bekommt er auch alle Sterne!!
