The Easy Hymn Fake Book: Over 150 Songs in the Key of "C" Kindle Edition

I love this book because even though I don't know every chord by sight yet, nor can I read sheet music proficiently anymore, I can still pick up most of the songs in this book along with the basic melody line within 1-3 practices. If you've played around with chords and sheet music but are not necessarily skilled yet at either, this is a great mediator. The chords are noted along with the basic melody line for the treble hand, so you are free to experiment with your bass hand. I do find myself wishing that EVERYTHING wasn't in C. I know that's easier to play, but I don't mind some of the other keys and get bored when I play in the same key for too long. Nonetheless, for me, this book still presents a few challenges and keeps me busy. I bought the Christmas book too after this one!

Oh my word, this book is great! Where was it when I was learning to play growing up? Hymns list several verses with an easy melody on the treble clef with chording above. Notes and words are enlarged...my kids had a hard time using a regular book after how large and clear this one is. I pencil in fingering in for those who need it. Chord notes are listed in the back. I've showed this to three other piano teachers/mothers of students, and two are buying it. Good variety of songs with just I, IV & V chords as well as other songs with additional chords to fill out. On my small piano, it lays open nicely without needing props. If you have a digital piano with a wimpy book holder, it may not stay as it is a tall substantial book. I enjoy playing out of it myself as do my elementary boys.

The book is almost perfect except it is not 8 1/2 x 11. As it is bound, it cannot stay open on a music rack. Each page has to be removed, copied at a 20% reduction and then placed into a 3 ring sheet protector. Put it in a 3 ring binder and it's perfect.

I wish there had been photos for me to see- I'm attaching a couple that I took once I received this book. There is only the melody line in the treble clef, no bass clef, never more than than one finger playing at a time. This is an ultra beginner book, not what I needed. I wanted a basic hymn book without so many sharps and flats as the church hymnal I'm using to practice with right now. This is way too basic, I will keep looking!

There are a lot of hymns here, simply arranged and easy to play if you know your chords in the key of C.Our church has been without a pianist or any other accompanist for two years. I have been trying to get good enough at piano to play sometimes, and this book should allow me to do that.If you have a semi-decent keyboard, the fact that all the songs are arranged in C shouldn't be a problem, because your keyboard probably has the option to automatically transpose as you play. This is like putting a capo on a guitar. You can play in other keys while still using the chord fingerlings you are used to.

Not as easy as this beginner hoped— no real shortcuts are there? Be prepared to master every chord that goes with the key of C, even hard to reach ones; when to use inversions of those chords or not; and the best fingering. Whew!

I just love these fake books in the key of C. I play a song at church as they take up offering. This book makes it so much easier than trying to play out of a regular song book. I can't do complicated playing so this book has been such a big help to me.

Love this book!!! It has many of my favorite hymns and they are arranged so that they are easier for a beginner like me to play them!!! I can play many of the hymns already in these arrangements that I cannot play in a regular lead sheet.

Not for me

This is just the book I was looking for. I learned so many songs I didn't know just by playing. Chords with left hand and notes with right. I put the Organ setting on my keyboard and it sounds awesome. Some I have played on my ukulele and it sounds fantastic. I have also played many on my Piano settings. If you miss or never heard some of the old hymns here is your chance to play and enjoy them. Absolutely no regrets on this purchase!
