Air Spencer (000800) CS-X3 Squash Scent Air Freshener Refill

I used to always use this air freshener, but started trying out other air fresheners in order to cut costs. Such as the tree air fresheners, the gel air fresheners, yankee candle air fresheners, and I even tried essential oils. I would say it would be a tie between this squash scented air freshener and the yankee candle car air fresheners. They would both be rated around an 8.8/10, while the others are probably a 5.5-6.0. This air freshener has been around for years, and it smells great. When you first open it, the smell is very strong. So far the best description I found for it is a bubble gum like smell (who knows what squash smells like). But after an hour or so, it's more soothing and isn't too strong. EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE enjoys this scent. All of my friends (in their 20's) of all ethnicities (asian, black, white, mexican, indian) all ask what scent that is as soon as they enter my car. It isn't limited to this age group either, my neice and nephew (3-5 years old), my uncle/aunt/brother/sisters (30-50 years old), and even different occupations (doctor, dentist, mechanic, student, waiter, business owner) all enjoy this scent. The point of all this is? Just get this air freshener and you'll be good. Usually with other air fresheners at target or walmart (like the tree's), I hear people say "oh only white or indian people like those". I generally hear people mention this air spencer as the asian or JDM or car guy air freshener. Either way, it smells great. get it as a gift for someone, get it for yourself. You won't regret it. OH by the way, don't bother getting treefrog squash scented or another other black squash scented, this is the best one and the strongest one and you can't really find any bulk or wholesale deals for this. Just pick up the refills for about $6-$7 that's the best price you're going to get, and you won't get a knock off that lasts only a week. These babies last for a solid month. ANOTHER TIP, these refills come with adhesive stickers to attach the air fresheners to your car. PRO TIP, the adhesive stickies SUCK. I would say get the 3M adhesive from target/walmart but that's way too expensive at a dollar or so for one. Go to the 99cent store, they have very strong PAINT safe adhesive stickies similar to 3M. It's like $1 for 15 adhesives and I've personally used them to hand up picture frames and other things at the office. UPDATE*** 3/4/16 So I just bought these, and they said they're from hong kong. Got them for about $7.30 or so, The box and the actual refill itself does say "made in japan", and it does have that unique scent. However, the smell should be stronger when you first open it. Don't get me wrong, the scent is still strong when you first open it, but only for an hour or two, then it gets a lot weaker. I've noticed after a few days it's already starting to grow weak. The original one use to be almost SICKENING strong for the first 2 or 3 days, but it would have a good amount of strength for the remaining month. I'm not sure if this is an original or a knock off, but I have a feeling it won't last as long. Another thing to note is that some people complain these might be knock offs and the scent goes away really quickly. I'd like to say that even the originals only lasted for about a week. I mean to say that you only notice the smell for about a week, because you get used to it. I only notice the scent as soon as I get into the car, and afterwards I'm used to the scent and don't really notice it anymore. I'm thinking this is what's happening to others, they just don't notice that they're used to it.

Smells good (I think that if Godzilla were real, this is what he'd smell like). Starts off strong and then the smell dissipates. The scent is hard to explain, but I'll try - Fresh, crisp, citrus-y with subtle undertones of...bubblegum? I know, it sounds weird, but my wife and I love it. It is not a "manly" or "girly" scent, but more neutral...like linen scent, but fruitier...but not too fruity. This item is actually a refill, although I never purchased the "adapter" to use it in - I just used it on its own. It does come with double-sided tape in the box, so you can stick it to (mostly) any surface. The black part of this item is a vent system. Even with the vents completely closed, it delivers a lot of fragrance. I would advise starting out with it closed and then opening the vents in small increments until you get your desired amount of scent. Where I live, there isn't too much sun this time of year so the car doesn't heat up as much or as hot, compared to Spring and Summer. I put this product under the passenger seat in mid October 2014. It's mid December 2014 and only recently did I feel that I need to replace it. So it's safe to say, that this product (not in direct sunlight) can last up to 2 months. Otherwise, the life expectancy is about 30 days. At $8 a pop (for this brand), it is on the spendy side to replace every 30 days. However, if you can stretch it out to every 60 days, then I think this is a great product! Buy it bulk and save!

I have loved this scent since the first time I smelled it in a friends car over 10 years ago! The scent is quite strong, even if you adjust the little bars on the top, the smell does get out and linger in your car for a very long time (which as far as I'm concerned, is a great thing)! For some reason it has become increasingly difficult to find the refills in stores or car washes, causing you to pay $15+ for a complete unit with the little plastic case. Thankfully I can now buy two refills for that price! I recommend purchasing from Tokyo Japanese Outlet as they sell the actual item that is made in Japan and not some Chinese knock off. As far as the scent, I really have no idea how on earth this scent is labeled "squash!" All I can think of is the company that makes this also own a squash farm and they mistakenly mislabeled the two items?! I can imagine theres a supermarket in Japan that has a sign next to a bin of squash that say: "happy lucky good smell bubble gum fire laser courage smell endurance + power 7 smell!" Whatever the reason, it smells great. To anyone trying this for the first time, if upon opening the bag you don't absolutely love this scent I would recommend that you put this in a space larger than a car, and let the scent work its way out, that way it wont be too strong and it'll give you an idea of what your car would smell like with this in it. Also, during warm weather the smell is very strong. During the summer season I open my car windows a few minutes before I leave to allow the leather seats to cool, and the scent is noticeable from the window in my room which is about 20 feet from the car. Did I mention that this scent really does linger?! Almost everyone that rides in my car always mentions how good my car smells, even a month after I've installed a fresh refill. Try it out, you probably wont regret it!

Best smelling car air freshener on the market. If only it lasted a long time.
