Re-livin the glory days
UPDATE:I wired these 8 Ohm and hooked them up to a bookshelf unit to break them in. I played 2 cd's each evening at very low volume for a week before finally hooking them up in the car. I just gotta say it again ... "WOW" ..., I've been pounding these for a month now and I am not the slightest bit sorry for purchasing them. They are currently hooked up to Lanzar VIBE241 Vibe 1000 Watt 2 Channel Mosfet Amplifier and secured in a custom cut faceplate with the rear of the speakers in the crawl through space of the trunk. With the back seats down (passenger compartment = box "free-air") and kickin it to Skrillex Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites EP [Explicit] I reached 127 peak decibel(c) on the Fuloon Digital Sound Pressure Level Meter 30 ~ 130 dB Decibel USB Noise Measurement. These speakers are well worth their weight (17 pounds) in any currency and a steal of a deal at these Amazon.com prices. Thank you Amazon and Lanzar! I added 2 more stars because I have never owned sound like this!-------------------- original----------------------The last time I bought stereo equipment was back in 1996 when I purchased a pair of Lanzar Street Base SB129 12" 800watt subwoofers at a mass liquidation sale. Those subs were always underpowered by a California Profile A600XL amp, but they still pounded the pavement just fine in an '83 Olds Cutlass. As I find myself entering the realm of midlife crisis, and with todays economic budget not allowing the purchase of a new cherry red Corvette convertible (cliche), I thought stereo upgrade would be a good hobby to boost my outlook. I installed those ancient subs in my 2006 Kia but managed to fry my old amp. I picked up a used Lanzar VIBE241 Vibe 1000 Watt 2 Channel Mosfet Amplifier and bridged one sub mono... Ok but too much power (amp 1000watt peak to sub 800watt peak). I cut a face plate to support both subs and ran them on individual channels as "free air" leaning the plate against the crawl through. WOW! I didn't realize the stereo thumping life I could have had during college had I picked up a bigger amp. I was hooked to the "good 'ol glory days". So, I checked out subwoofers and saw these Lanzar MAXP124D Max Pro 12-Inch 1600 Watt Small Enclosure Dual 4 Ohm Subwooferand purchased them without checking any reviews here on Amazon because my old Lanzar subs pound insane (wow, some of those reviews concern me now). Impulsive buy became compulsive with the purchase of a new Lanzar DCT425 4000 Watt 4 Channel Full FET Class AB Amplifier and the Lanzar VIBEX6 Vibe 3 Way Electronic Crossover Network with Remote Subwoofer Control Of course, I haven't installed any of these components yet, because I am still savoring the sound of those old subs while awaiting additional components and deciding how to install all of this equipment in a compact trunk. Now for the preliminary review:-Shipping, nothing like FREE 2 day from order to delivery, of course ordered 2AM Saturday morning meant not to deliver until Tuesday. I was paranoid at 5 pm on Tuesday, but they arrived at 6:10PM. 2 business days so fair deal (4*)-Packaging, delivered as a pair in an oversized box with loose paper fill. A couple of creases are apparent on the individual boxes, but no significant damage (4*)-Craftsmanship, I like the terminal connectors because they are rigid mounted (solid) with allen locking screws and 2 inputs on each voicecoil for either 2 or 8 ohm impedence connecting both together and still able to send wiring from the sub to the external terminal, however, polarity is marked by red coloring inside the allen head which could disappear over time or if all 4 screws come out, they could get put back in the wrong order. It would be nice to have + or - embossed on the terminal blocks. Speaker number one appears concentric for all ring surfaces, however, speaker number 2 has some issues where several rings are skewed and not concentric. This is cosmetic and shouldn't affect performance. (3*)I like the addition of the rubber magnet boot on todays subwoofers. it is much easier to remove metal debris that may come in contact with the magnet. The composite OD ring is wrapped around the basket lip so we don't need to worry about the front ring separating from the face of the basket. Overall, these look much better constructed than my old SB129's and the new Boss P126DVC Phantom 12-Inch Subwoofer Dual 4-Ohm Voice Coils I picked up to add to my system just because I like the Phantom image (that's so chic). Call me crazy, but more is better...right? When all is ready to go, I may just have to buy a vehicle with more trunk space. This is my first time using Dual voicecoils, so I may wind up like those other poor reviews in the end. Back in the day, I was warned to avoid dual voicecoils because of the problems experieced when both coils aren't powered in sync vs the stability of a single coil. I hope to be able to improve this review in the future.

Hard hitters for bass lovers
Love them I have the 15s on a 1500 amp in a sealed box. They hit so hard hard my little girl was in the car and she said the bass was making her heart feel funny. I sat back with her and I could feel what she was talking about. When the bass hits hard it makes your heart flutter. Had to remove everything that was laying around in the car became everything would vibrate like crazy.Update I have gone through 3 of this speakers in the past 4 months. They just stop working one day. One went out Amazon sent me a new one at no cost. That one work for about long enough for me not to be able to get a refund. So I got anyone this one lasted 3 weeks. So Amazon did the same thing sent me a new one at no cost. To make aLong story short i love the bass they produced but they don't last long. I now have 4 of them just sitting in their boxes not working. Don't understand they just stop working all of them. No popping noise no scratchy sound just stop.

Not worth the time!
I bought a pair of these like eight years ago and I thought these were comparable to my Cerwin Vega and Peavey units. I could not complain at all !Fast-forward to my recent purchases!I purchased 3 of these in a year and a half. The first one, one of the coils burned in a few weeks but the sound was so good I said that I would get a warranty replacement and purchase another pair and wait for the replacement unit and use it for a spare. Got the replacement unit and in 3 weeks specifically, one of the connections to the coil underneath the cone broke off on one of the new ones.I contacted Pyle support and let them know what was happening even offered a solution to the problem. They told me that, to make another replacement, I'd have to shoulder the shipping costs for their warranty replacement! With the cost of the 3 purchases, I've crossed the threshold for a Cerwin Vega unit and landed in the Peavey units arena.I'll chalk this up to a loss and stick to my Cerwin Vega and Peavey units! I hardly damage those despite all the pressure I put on them.If I could give these new units a 0 I would!

Initial review upon first inspection
As the title says this is just a initial review upon receipt. I Purchased this and a Lanzar HTG257 from Vm Inovations and I was not really pleased with the way it was shipped just in its original packaging. As for the sub itself it has a good weight from it due to the magnets but beside that the build quality feels very cheap. The cone and foam surrounds are okay for a budget speaker but the rubber shroud or cap that covers the magnet and terminal could be much better. The shroud although thick isn't a snug fit and feels loose but the real downer are the terminals they feel so cheap like they would break if to much pressure is applied. I am still holding out final judgment until i place it in a box and break it in. The price is very reasonable and if it performs I guess my score will be swayed to match. By the way the speaker comes with box specs on a small leaflet for sealed and ported enclosures. Sealed was a min of 0.33cuft and a max of 0.75cuft

never buy used subs. new ones rock. 5 star product.
i bought two of these subs used hoping that there was some attempt at quality control. i feel utterly betrayed by amazon. the first used model was broken. first strike- burnt out coils from the previous customer and easily detected with my multimeter in seconds. second strike- the next subwoofer works but was a dated model, switched out by the previous customer as blatant fraud. they carefully packaged the switched out model to avoid detection. unbelievable that this got by returns. broken model on the right. switched model on the left. never again. i bought two new and hopefully i will write a positive review for an otherwise good product.got brand new ones. the thump is clean and mighty. unbeatable for price. using a small enclosed box, pushing the amp a bit with 2ohm wiring scheme. 5 star product all the way. just don’t buy used.
