Pretty good footage for the price, but the battery doesn't last as long as I hoped. I now to bring a portable charger or two along.

Bad battery, mediocre recordings, bad pictures...you get what you pay for
Pros:-small-Decent recordings-Cheap-Decent accessories for the price.-Decent caseCons:-Horrible pictures-Horrible battery. This think couldn't record more than 32mins at 1080p and got hot as ever.-Gets very hot recording.-Battery life indicator worthless...the bar is High, medium or Dead....no percentage or time left...sucks.-Can't record more than 32mins...battery dies every time.-You can't plugin and record so that sucks.Keep in mind Vivitar used to be a top lens manufacturer and eventually went bankrupt and assets/trademark purchased to rebrand with action cameras and similar gear. This thing isn't the worst but feels like an early prototype that needs improvement specifically around the battery, optics and just more extensive testing that wouldn't drive the price up much. You get what you pay for so if you just need a disposable camera then this might fit the bill.I think an old phone in a waterproof case would do better so not sure why in this form factor they can't encompass what a 5 year old cell phone can do.

Also stopped working for me :(
I bought this unit for my son, but the waterproof case broke first, then the camera stopped working. Its too late for a refund, however, and manufacturers warranty is very slow in getting it resolved.

Surprisingly good camera
Imagine my surprise that a <$80 "underwater" camera works as billed and takes relatively high-quality video under water. One minor design flaw: if you've set the camera on video, you're stuck with that setting until you're comfortable enough to open the case to change it to still photos. That could be a big deal for some. You're either on video or on still, and can't switch between the two under water. Also audio is very muffled as a result of the lexan (or whatever it is) case. But you'd sort of expect that. Video quality is outstanding given the price. The camera, thanks to the hardy case, can take a licking. I dove off a sailboat with the camera attached to my head (with the EEEKit head band) and it filmed it well. Another drawback is absolutely horrid instructions. But it's pretty easy to figure out where on/off is and what the other button does (start/stop film.)I've only had this camera for a few weeks and have shot plenty of footage in the surf in the Bahamas. If it doesn't last any longer, it still would have been worth it (a still camera with underwater case that you have to develop film for is typically $21. This is 4x that, but has greater capacity on one micro sd card.)Oh, the camera does not include a micro SD card.

Chinese made, so awful
Product did not turn on, then later turned on by itself and we couldn't turn it off. By the time we realized it was getting hot and the battery was dying, we had to turn it off with the reset feature, which requires a tiny pin, which of course we don't keep on hand at the pool. Then once it was safely off, the cycle starts again. Won't turn on. Poor birthday girl is so sad. Not sure if I want to try and fix it or return it, but it is unusable as is. I will see what I can find to replace it before asking the child if she wants to return it. Afraid to get another one, after this experience and reading reviews.

Questionable advertised settings
The media could not be loaded. I ordered this camera for my trip to Iceland, as I wanted to get a lot of real time video/pictures. The attached video is a glacial hike, showing you the quality at max settings (1080p @ 60FPS) As another reviewer noted, I really don't think this camera films in 1080p. I've compared the quality of my videos to that of the GoPro4 (listed 1080p at 60fps) filmed at similar settings, and Vivitar doesn't hold up. While I understand this camera is significantly cheaper, it doesn't excuse the fact Vivitar's product is not shooting similar quality given its "identical" specs. Regardless, this is a great beginner action camera and is super easy to use, but I'll be moving on for better quality.
