Vision: The Complete Collection

Vision: The Complete Collection collects Vision (2015) #1-12 written by Tom King with artwork mostly from Gabriel Hernandez Walta (#1-6, #8-12) with Michael Walsh doing #7 and Jordie Bellaire handling the colours. Tom King is a writer Im seeing more and more on my shelves, it started with the Omega Men the Mister Miracle then begining his Batman Rebirth run, going into single issue I've began his Rorschach and Batman and Catwoman run and now Vision. So far Vision is my favourite out of the lot, so it's a shame I've really left it this long given how much praise I have heard from it, it is currently considered King and Walta's magnum opus and so far I think that title is rightly deserved. Each of his previous works having their own message and what it's trying to convey but here...its colder and chilling. The story is enjoyable and easily justifies a purchase especially for the very reasonable cost on Amazon that's nearly half of what you'd pay elsewhere.I won't give away much of the story at it simply needs to be read but Vision decides to settle down with a wife and two kids and live a normal life like everyone else, sadly this isn't what they get. Instead we are treated to the affects of being different as well a gradually increasing tragic story thats equivalent to a train wreck on Visions dreams of having a normal life. I could give away all of the good bits but that would spoil then fun in it for you, so I urge you not to look into reviews that will spoil anything as this comic is a wonderful surprise that can pull on the heartstrings.Given that it's a Tom King comic there is a lot to digest especially here and reminds me of Alan Moore which some may or may not like me mentioning. It justifies multiple readings and contains subtleties that maybe people like me who were never strong with literature may miss, but means you'll find something new on each read through. The artwork is great and gives this unsettling portrayal of the vision and his family especially the hollow white eyes and shows why others could be afraid. Another thing I loved is it's almost like King created this own language the way the Vision's family communicate with each other being logic based and it works well. There's not much to dislike about this comic so if your a fan of King go ahead and pick this up, or if you have no idea who he is this is the best one of his works to pick up. A big plus here is that you don't need to really have much/any experience with comics to pick this up, you can pick this up blind or with experience, it's a self contained story that doesn't require any prior reading. If you're on the fence, don't be this is a well crafted piece of art and shouldn't be missed regardless of your opinions on Tom King. I'll provide several images to showcase the artwork and try to make sure they don't spoil too much of the story. There is also a hardcover edition of this comic that I believe contains more extras so if that's something you prefer keep your eyes peeled.Amazon randomises the order of the pictures I upload even though I upload them in order. I bought this on a recommendation, and was glad I did.I’ve read a few marvel titles before but am always weary that I will get lost not knowing all of the back story. No such worry here. This is a perfectly contained tale (with any references to other stories being explained very well).I loved this book, and won’t spoil it, but it’s a real page turner with relatable core characters (even though they are synthetic) fantastic expressive art and would I recommend to even the most casual comic fan.
