Tequila Sunrise (BD) [Blu-ray]

It's never too late to enjoy a marvelous Tequila Sunrise
Wasn't permitted to watch Tequila Sunrise when it hit the theaters but even the bright upbeat VHS-tape box-cover left a happy memory until I was finely aged enough to comprehend and greatly enjoy over 30 years later; Tequila Sunrise, is a fantastic comedy comprised of Breaking-Bad stereotypical serious elements well known amongst all crime syndicates.

Kurt Russell delivers again.
Excellent cast. Michelle Pfeiffer is always believable in her roles.Kurt Russell seems to be able to play just about any character. The added bonus was Raul Julia, who also never disappointed.

Its 1080p
Lots of misinformation in the reviews. The movie I received was HD with great sound and the original theatrical cut. Amazon is somewhat at fault for the confusion. The specifications should clearly state the video (DVD, HD [1080] or 4K, and sound quality and television format [PAL or NTSH]. Great movie.

Brilliant Work
Writer-director Robert Towne's effort here only pales when you consider it next to his screenplay for "Chinatown" probably the best in American film history. Essentially this is a tale of love, friendship, and crime. Dale (Mel Gibson) is a drug dealer trying to quit the trade which only drags him back in a la Michael Corleone. Nick (Kurt Russell) is a narcotics detective who was friends with Dale who may have suffered a similar fate if not for circumstances from an incident in their late teens. Joanne (Michelle Pfeiffer) is a restaurant owner torn between these two charismatic lads. Throw into the mix a really dumb D.E.A. agent (the late great J.T. Walsh), a suave Mexican narcotics agent (Raul Julia), and Dale's goofy cousin (Arliss Howard) and you have a work worthy of the best pulp fiction. Great ensemble work from all involved. Story takes some unexpected turns but finishes plausibly. Terrific cinematography by ace Conrad Hall. I didn't count a single gunshot until the waning moments of the film. A difficult sell by studio because they probably didn't know whether to market it as a crime story or a love story. Ultimately a challenging but rewarding piece.

Sassy and steamy 80s at its best!
If you're a fan of Tequila Sunrise you won't be disappointed with this streaming edition. Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell are as gorgeous as you remember, and Raul Julia is a pure joy to behold. This movie delivers all the best elements of the 80s - smart beautiful people, gorgeous locations and clothes, a lovely soundtrack heavy on the sexy saxophone in all the right places. It's also one of the most beautifully filmed movies in my memory, just a crime that it didn't win many awards for cinematography.I also think this movie must have been responsible for a lot of hot tub sales! π

An Old Favorite Never Fails to Please
I once heard this title described as "the modern-day Casablanca." Certainly, there are some elements of the plot that suggest that classic. I'm a tremendous Michelle Pfeiffer fan, so how could it miss with me? I like Mel Gibson's performance in this movie as well. It's just a shame that he went 'lunatic fringe' on us, but that doesn't detract from his performance here. Kurt Russell does a good job, though his character isn't so likeable. I suppose that just means he played his part well. Kudos to all of them. There are the usual set of unsavory characters as well, including a corrupt FBI agent who is about as endearing as your worst landlord played by T.J. Walsh. RaΓΊl JuliΓ‘ puts in a great performance of a Mexican drug kingpin you just have to love, if not his illegal activities. Too bad he's deceased - what a great actor. I first saw this movie in the theater shortly after its original release and I have owned the VCR tape and, now for a couple of years, the DVD. It's an entertaining movie with a lot of complexities, which is hard to find in today's rather monolithic movie genre in my opinion. Everyone has their favorites and this happens to be one of mine.

This movie needs to be remastered
This is a solid movie, with an excellent twist at the end. The problem is the sound is terrible. The volume levels are all over the place, and I kept having to adjust the volume up or down to understand what was going on.

Lots of action, plot twists and personal interations.
This is one of my favorite movies with multiple plot twists, a strong love triange, very humanous interactions between and among multiple people during their life times whom they have loved, while growing up. Then watching them make their irindividual CHOICE decisions, which relate to whom and what they are and have &/or are trying to become.

Action packed storyline.
Full of nail biting scenes ,coupled with humour and romance of course, good leading stars combination, and for ladies, anything with Mel Gibson, before his "curious" stages recently!
