LightCharge USB Dynamo Hub Charger
I love this product. It charges all my USB devices when running during the daylight and acts as a switch for turning lights on or off. It will not charge and power the lights at the same time. I mounted on the handlebar near the stem and can charge a device concealed in a small top tube bag or handlebar bag. I also use it to charge my Bolt solar battery as a back up storage device to charge my phone or Garmin computer. Installation was simple. It would be ideal if you use an Iphone for maps or gps and want to keep it charged while using it.

Don't Cheap Out, Buy a Better Brand
it did its job while it worked, but this brand/model lasted about two months before it died. i've been told by an EE that it got burned out after too many downhills because it likely couldn't handle the increased charge. don't know if that was the cause, but i do know that it stopped working promptly after a massive descent down rabbit ear pass into steamboat springs, CO.

It worked for a week
I naively thought since the product description is for hub dynamo I could just plug it into my dynamo hub. But it's not that simple. There are three wires with no connectors. The instructions show nicely how to hook the wires to a bottle dynamo. Although you need a high powered magnifying glass to see the diagram for hub wiring. And if you can figure it out you still need connectors. A European site actually shows 4 wiring options available. One of them for the son hub with connectors. Although I could find no one offering this option for sale. If you have some electrical wiring knowledge, access to connectors and shrink tubing this is a great product because it's simple, light weight and it works. Just hope it holds up long enough to get me through my next bike tour. Back from my bike tour and this is what I now have to say. This product worked great at first. I was very excited. But after one week of use it died died.

Did more harm than good to my phone
It is possible that this product does work, however it was a definite failure on my bike. I took the thing on tour hoping to keep my Samsung Galaxy S3 charged so that I could take and upload photos, check google maps from time to time, access warmshowers.org etc. I had the thing connected to a Shimano Alfine dynamo front hub laced to a 20" wheel. This product was a last minute addition to the bike before taking of on a tour through rugged sections of Oregon and the northern Pacific coast. Without the opportunity to test the product out, I elected to wire my lights and the switch in parallel--this way if the LightCharge was a total dud, my lights would still work. All I needed the product to do was charge a phone because my lights already had an on/off switch. I tried using the thing initially but quickly abandoned it because my phone responded as if I were rapidly plugging into and unplugging from a wall outlet--constantly beeping to indicate it was receiving then losing power. My battery is noticeably compromised from perhaps fifteen collective minutes of (ab)use. Before totally writing off the LightCharge, I tried travelling steadily at different speeds to see how it reacted and noticed no change in its poor performance. While I strongly suspect that this device completely sucks, it is possible that it could work for you despite failing for me. Smaller wheels must spin faster leading the dynamo to output more power than on a normal sized wheel when travelling at the same speed. I had no issue with the lights (no exploded halogen bulbs despite multiple long descents at 45+mph) but could have tripped the advertised surge protection at very low speed as a result. If the mechanism involves breaking the circuit entirely over a certain output until the dynamo slows back down to a more modest power output, that could explain the constant cutting in and out. However, the rotational difference between small and large wheels at a cyclist's normal cruising speed is not incredibly great, the smaller wheel spins maybe a third faster. So when I tested the charging function at low speeds (6-10 mph), that should equate to performance on a bike a with normal wheels at normal touring speeds. To me this strongly indicates that the LightCharge is a crappy product that can, at best, only serve as a marginally useful handlebar-mounted switch for a dynamo light. I will certainly update this review if I ever manage to rig a working set-up involving this contraption, but I'm currently betting that the LightCharge suffers from poor design and that I'll never find any use for this thing.

Great product & great service
The product works exactly as designed. The instructions were not very clear when you have a dynamo light with 2 wires like the Supernova triple but it still works fine. Also, the customer service was very responsive around questions. Overall, I'm very happy. I'm powering my iPhone and my light with this switch. M.

It looks like it works good
I just installed this with a dyno hub to charge my smart phone on a long ride. It seems to work but I'm going to try it on about a 40 mile ride tomorrow.

Sustain your batteries
I've done a few 25 mile rides both playing music and running a GPS app on my iPhone 4s and my battery gained about 5-10% increase in power. I've used other dynamo chargers in the past that would handily charge a iPhone to full in about 2-3 hours, so when trying this I expected the same thing. Don't expect this to charge as quickly as plugging it into the wall, but this will definitely sustain your battery for your entire ride, with a small increase in power. I'll assume that it could charge a lot quicker if the device was powered down.Very light package, simple install, and a nice toggle switch, which can route the power to the charger or a dynamo powered light.

have not used it yet
I have not had the opportunity to use the item yet. I was going to use the LightCharge Hub with the Dynamo I received, but the DynamoI got ended up not working.I gave the item four stars because the item came on time without any hassle.
