The black cap is a bit soft, like the OEM cap. Using a crescent wrench on the inner hex may slip. Using a big channel lock pliers on the outter hex works fine.Note that the white plastic thermostat housing is actually two pieces. A white ring screws down to hold the metal thermostat into the rest of the white body. While installing on a lift, the ring part popped off and into the water. I had to go swimming to get it. Found it, screwed it down tight, and all is fine nowI used these to replace sand-clogged thermostats on a Johnson 2-stroke 175, which overheated. I just did a severe shakedown cruise, and no overheating. All is fine now.Much cheaper than OEM, and now that I know that the white part is 2 piece. I can unscrew it to wash out any sand or gunk. unlike OEM.Included cap, thermostat, spring, and O-ring.
