Legendary offshore powerboat racer
The book arrived from The Goodwill Bookstore in perfect condition as a used edition in 48 hrs.Fascinating read on a legendary figure in the boating and boatbuilding world in South Florida. As a native of South Florida my home waters in North Miami were adjacent Thunderboat Row and when the wind blew from the north the ever present aroma of resin and fiberglass could be detected on the breeze from the Formula, Thunderbird, Donzi and eventually Cigarette factories. While boating and fishing on Biscayne Bay and the surrounding offshore waters we would see all these incredible boats owned by many of us and they remain icons to this day.His tragic and untimely murder reverberated through the boating world and struck to our core and remains one of the great American tragedies even today. The authors in depth analysis of the murder investigation over the ensuing ten years was succinctly presented in a concise timeline fashion and was easy to follow. Fair and objective commentary on the literary works of others who also wrote about this tragedy were also presented throughout the book.Highly recommend this as required reading for anyone with interest in knowing more about this legendary figure particularly if you have already seen the movie.RIP Don AronowRespectfully,Bernie Vinoski Jr.

Speed Kills: An Excellent Crime Book
Arthur Jay Harris has written a very good book about the murder of Don Aronow. This is not a biography of Don Aronow. Indeed, the first real discussion of his background does not appear until Chapter 8. However, it is a good recreation of the police investigation of the crime. The book begins on February 3, 1987, the date of the murder, and continues in chronological order for most of the book. It is told from the viewpoint of the police and painstakingly recreates their search for the killer. All the reports, all the witnesses, and all the false leads are decribed in intimate detail. One problem is that there are so many players in this game, it is hard to keep them all straight. Harris contiunes, date by date, detailing everything. It is really a textbook for how the police investigate a difficult crime. Harris does not speculate at all, he reports only the facts as he collected them and leaves the speculation to others. One thing that would have improved the book would have been more pictures. There are plenty of photos of Aronow and Ben Kramer, but there is only one small picture of Bobby Young, the actual trigger man. More photos of him and of Aronow's wife and children, as well as some of the other major players, would have been welcome. All in all, this is a very good book and would be enjoyed by murder mystery fans as well as fans of Don Aronow.

A great read for historical and entertainment purposes!
If you love powerboating, then you know about Don Aronow. This book will give you a history of what happened and will keep you in suspense as they try to figure out who killed him. Along the way you'll learn about how many of the most popular powerboat manufacturing companies came to be. It is great entertainment and great for historical information on the sport of powerboating and powerboat racing.
