The Code of Kings: The Language of Seven Sacred Maya Temples and Tombs

I appreciated the item was as described. I got it in good time.

I like the book a lot but the way the pages are set up it's really hard to follow. It will show a picture of a mural on one page then two pages later is the description that runs into the third page. It would have been a whole lot better if it were all on the same page or at least the opposite page when both are opened.Also the text is so freaking small it makes your eyes hurt. If you wear glasses then maybe it's better but I don't know.

If you love archeology, if you love architecture, if you are blown out by civilizations that were as sophisticated as any - you will love this book. Linda Schele and Peter Matthews write with the authority of insiders. The were among the first of the international teams to study the language of the ancient Maya and their culture. The authors tell the stories of the seven cities with the passion of writers. Highly recommend this book!

It is hard to gainsay Linda Schele's awesome work on the Mayan civilization. But the author's strategy of attempting to get the reader to adopt the point of view of the mayan rulers is off putting to me. I might be able to empathize with a grand ceremony, but knowing that ceremony or another ended with some beheadings distances the whole thing for me.

I loved this book. I took it with me to visit some of the sites it highlights and it brought everything to life. It provides enough information that you could look at the inscriptions in the ruins and actually understand what you were looking at.

Great book but typography and images are extremely small. Difficult to read and see art.

I was pleasantly surprised by the this book. They really get into the history, the language, the religion, and culture of the various sites, what happened, and architecture of the places. I enjoy thinking about strange worlds and different peoples, and this book is a delight, you find yourself in enchanted places. The Maya people really come alive in this work. I can't think of anything I could do to improve this book. I had to give it 5 stars.

Una obra muy buena sobre los mayas de la época clásica para todo aquel que se quiera adentrar en el estudio de los mayas

Linda Schele hace un excelente trabajo en este libro, sobre todo a la hora de estudiat la iconografía Maya, ya que hay muy poco sobre ese aspecto de los Mayas.
