American Headway 1 Student Book & CD Pack

I love this book. I know it is heavy on grammar, but if you use it as part of your class and not your whole class, it is an awesome tool.

does not do the job

I teach adult ESL students using this textbook and the workbook. It's one of the worst textbooks I've come across. Almost every page of this book is over crowded with activities, something that can really discourage and confuse beginner students. The sequencing is also strange, almost like there was no fore-thought in ordering each Unit. Also, it's very difficult to split these Units into different class periods because you end up starting the next day at an awkward point. I like books that make each Unit easily divisible into multiple classes. Another strange part is that all of the writing lessons are in the back of the book. Although this was recently published, the stock photos are all from the 90's.The teacher's book is awful as well. I prefer teacher's books that have the student's material alongside of the teacher's text so that you can easily see what students see, but this is not the case. The teacher's book is difficult to navigate as well and forces you to have two books open while teaching.
