You can pay hundreds of dollars for these drums and get near perfect tuning. I wasn't expecting that here, and the notes tend toward the "flat" end but not too badly, and with some research, you can hammer, file, use magnets, and whatever it takes to tune it perfectly yourself.For the money, I found this drum adequate in every way. The tuning is C Major, and as I mentioned, the notes tend (on mine) slightly flat. And uniformly so, so it is more a C flat scale. The notes are G3, A3, B3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, B4, C5. It is a delightful "first" tongue drum with melodic notes that should suit most people's needs. And any kid's needs.I would find it completely adequate for meditation and/or stress relief. The melodic tones just melt stress away. And there are several drum makers on Youtube who have posted lessons on how to play these drums. If I knew then what I know now, I may have made a different choice. But for most people, this should fit the standard requirements. The 12" size is a good "starter" size. The resonance is definitely there.I would recommend this low-cost drum. The above caveats considered.

I didnt want to spend $300+ for a first tongue drum. I researched more affordable drums with a good sound. For the money, I figured it was a safe bet. It is a 12" drum, and can be played in your lap as well as a table top. I Received this drum the next day. It came packed in the carry case, with numbered stickers. No instructions.When I started to play this drum I used my fingers and achieved a soft pretty sound. Using the mallets produced a louder clearer sound. On a whim, I played it like my djembe drum and got a third sound that was totally unexpected but great. This is a pentatonic C Major scale instrument.I lost several hours playing this drum. You do not need experience, or musical ability. The random sounds were soothing and enchanting. I imagine I could learn to play a recognizeable song, but I love the freedom of the random music, of being in the moment where there are no wrong notes.For those of you on the fence thinking about buying one of these type drums this is a good affordable drum to start with.

Good tone right price. When I decided to buy a thumb drum I discovered a variety of prices. Fact is you buy a good drum for less than $100. I was able to get this one in a range I was comfortable with and it’s tone seems good to my sensitivity ear.

Many notes ring with a metal tinny sound as well as the musical tone. Being a trained musician, it is annoying to me. Still, for the money overall it is not bad. My low 1 and middle 5 do not ring well. I am ordering another one and hoping those notes ring better.

sound was the main reason to choose this particular product vs other ones. so, the sound recorded in the video helped a lot. when the drum arrived, the real sound turned out to be amazing. the product and sound are exactly as described. recommend

From the description I thought I would only get the drum, mallets and case, but it came with a music book which was in English, extra stickers and a mallet holder. The drum had the numbers already placed on it, was in tune, and had feet and a plug in the bottom. I am having great fun playing it and very please with my purchase.

This steel drum arrived right on time. It is a gift from a Canadian grandmother to her son's family in the USA in a year when we won't be able to visit. They have an 18 month toddler who loves music. Both my son and the baby just love it. I hope it will fill their home with relaxing sounds.

I liked everything about this drum....so much so that I ordered two more, one for each of my teenaged grand kids! Very easy to learn and make up tunes. It does come with a tune book and a really nice carrying case.
