Team-up for the ages.
Justice League. Those words have a special meaning to my childhood, since the DC animated universe was my first introduction to superheroes. This of course lead me to Morrison's acclaimed run on the JLA.So, during the 90's, DC said that no hero with his/her own solo series could be in the Justice League, and sales fell. Eventually, Morrison was asked to write the title, and he demanded to bring all the universe's heavy hitters back. Thus begins one of the best runs of superhero comics. Morrison brings together Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman into one great adventure series. I can honestly say I was never bored once while reading. Now, the lack of side stories does raise a few issues. Superman gets a new costume I'd never heard of halfway through, and some other minor things. But that doesn't detract from the story in any significant way. Any fan of the DC Universe should be satisfied with this comic.

Really enjoyable, fun intro to The Justice League
If you're looking for a way to learn more about the personalities behind the Justice League, JLA Vol. 1 is worth the price of admission. Discovering the comedy of the Flash and Green Lantern when working together, or following Batman as the preferred lone wolf who graciously helps the Justice League creates for a fun ride with memorable writing. Its art style is teeming with life. JLA is fresh paint on a great concept. If you want to enjoy a DC comic that has a bit of everything, this is it. New reader? This is for you.

JLA at their best
It’s a shame the DC films didn’t borrow from this run. I read these as they were first released and absolutely loved it. Often when I re-read something years later it doesn’t have the same impact. Morrison’s JLA run is just as good now as it was then.It is amusing to see some of the relics from that era, some were great; I always thought that this version of Aquaman (long hair and beard, harpoon hand) was THE best take on the character. Others are a laugh; the electric Superman. If you like the DC icons you’ll like this series, the initial story arc is the best of this volume but there is better to come (Rock of Ages).

A reason to love Grant Morrison. You have to read it!
Each story by Morrison in this volume is masterly. This is the 90's in its splendor but with a classic vibe as together with the long haired and electric Superman or the shiny black Batman costume and pop references of the age you have arcs with extraterrestrials invaders, advanced robots, angels and demons as the antagonists as in the old 70's comics. But Morrison knows how to write and he doesn't copy to make something nostalgic and childish but baths in the spirit of those popular comics and this volume ends being quite creative and mature.

Incredible place to start reading JLA
JLA: The Deluxe Edition Volume 1. This is first book of Grant Morrison's 1990s JLA series. His work on this title has been heavily applauded, often considered the best run in Justice League history. Upon reading this book twice, I would say that the praise is warranted, and this is the perfect place to start reading JLA. It collects JLA 1-9 (the same issues that are in New World Order and American Dreams combined) and JLA Secret Files 1.The stories are well told and thoroughly entertaining. The book opens with a 4 issue arc, and then it has several smaller arcs, some lasting for just one issue. It can be a little confusing sometimes, and you might want to read things twice, but overall, by the end, everything should make sense. Minor characters that appear throughout these stories include Neron, Connor Hawke, Ivo, Metamorpho, and several other notables. But the big draw are the 7 stars of the series: Aquaman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman. They are all characterized extremely well and they all have a part to play. None of them are under or overused. The art is really good, and colors are used effectively. However, the characters are drawn a little inconsistently at times. But nothing is too troubling, and the majority of the time I greatly enjoyed the art. This collection gets 5 stars. The first time I read it, I thought it deserved 4, but after re-reading it, its brilliance truly shines through. You're getting 10 great issues, which are spanned over 256 pages. There are no additional comics that need to be read beforehand, as this series explains itself well. And for the quality of this book, and how much it contains, the price is quite fair.A classic read. I look forward to continuing the epic in Vol. 2!-Tickles

AMAZING! OUTRAGEOUS! Did I mention - AMAZING!
This is how big adventures are supposed to be written. The world is in jeopardy, the heroes have their backs against the wall, all hope seems lost - then an unexpected but completely plausible and "how did I not think of that?" twist and the good guys win the day.The first story is a 4-parter which I hope DC uses in some form to pace out the just announced JLA movie set for 2015. It's followed up by a great one-shot story about an almost-villain that might throw new readers due to Superman's costume change; just know that at the time it made perfect sense in his own series of books. Next comes an out-of-the-blue end-of-days story which is also the one and only story in Morrison 4 years on this title where he actually gives Wonder Woman some panel time to shine through - "Angels. Meet Wonder Woman." The book closes out with a 2-parter that involves a long-time villain that for JLA fans will be a real treat but one who really needs no introduction for newbies, plus the plot twist is pretty brilliant! The art is grand, the colors pop off the page, and the action keeps coming. True it is light on character development but Morrison specifically set out to tell action tales and DC at the time of original publication preferred to have the character's solo titles tackle all that so what we get here instead is flashes of character interaction that give us insight into how and why these world-saving heroes work together so well.

Great action but has it's flaws.
Collecting the 1st 2 major stories of Grant Morrisons JLA run this volume seems The Justice League stocked full of all the 'big' players. Batman, Superman, Wonder woman, the Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner).Prior to this run the Justice league was mostly B-lister heroes and interest was waning. Morrisons take is to bring back all the big guns and do huge action adventure stories with intergalatic enemies and threat on a global scale. And in this aim the series succeeds. The foes are epic, the heroes super heroic and the adventures grand. This is a great big scale superhero adventure. The artwork is superb with some oddities that newer readers may find strange. Superman is sporting his 90s era Mullet, but with all the swashbuckling and dering do going on here that's a minor quibble. The pacing of the story is breakneck speed, this truely feels like a adventure that only the worlds greatest heroes combined could contend with. The only gripe I have with this book is that between the 1st and 2nd stories obviously a lot happens to the characters that isn;t covered here. Superman suddently pops up as a blue energy based hero with totally different powers and bar a couple of brief mentions it's not really explained. This is pretty jarring to someone who wasn't familiar with the Super-goings on in the 90s.Overall this a great thrill ride of a book, the artwork is big, bold and colours are strong. The cover gives in good impression of the style found in the volume. As with all 'team up' style comics it suffers a lack of screen time for the individual characters. I would certainly recommend picking this up but you might want to familiarize yourself with some of the characters present before delving in.

An enjoyable experience at page 1
As a DC fan, especially of the justice league, I very much enjoyed Grant Morrison's take on the Justice league and their associated stories. Though long, it fails to disappoint by having interesting characters, great stories inside by one of the best comic book writers in the industry. Would recommend to other DC/ Comic fans both old and new.

Great read of the jla in the 90s
Great artwork and fun stories make this an enjoyable read. Not Morrison's best work, but still very good. Martian Manchester, the flash and green lantern have some of the best parts in the collection.

Gran Morrison: 'nuff said!

Wake me up when it gets good
The first nine issues fail to live up to this conics legendary status. All you get here is short 2 to 3 issue tales that will try to tell you they are grand and epic, but aren't. An amazing cast with great chemistry and interactions gets wasted for very inconsequential events. A shame.

Great team book!
First off the book showed up in fantastic condition, now to the good stuff. The book was a great example of pre new 52 team chemistry. Between the Flash and Green Lantern's constant bickering and Aquaman's arrogance, the characters were dynamic and I loved every moment. Being a deluxe edition too, you get more than one story arc like modern day trades, you get three different arcs in this book with a special issue as well. 10 issues for the price, which is a nice deal. It's worth your time, and if you look close enough in this volume, you may spot Wolverine and Dr. Doom. Best of luck with that Where's Waldo search! Pick it up!

Io adoro la Justice League of America

Good fun
Fun read. Less intricate than some of the newer material. Very enjoyable even if some of the stories seem a tad out of order
