On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty I would rate the installation of this kit a 5. In order to install this kit you need to remove the control circuits from the stock dash mount and install them in this one. To do so requires a few tools that the average car owner may not have, including: torx driver, socket wrench, and wire stripper/crimper. Luckily, I had everything I needed already and did not have to rush to a store for anything. With the right tools everything goes smoothly, just follow the instructions the kit comes with and transfer all the parts from the stock unit to this one. Prepare your wiring harness, the bare wires connect to the wiring harness that comes with your aftermarket radio and plugs into the radio at the front of the car. The end of the Metra harness that has the connector and female antenna port get run all the way back into the trunk of the car where you unplug the large wire bundle and antenna from the stock amp and plug them into this harness. The biggest difficulty will be unclipping the carpet and climbing in to the trunk to get the wiring harness run beneath the rear seat and into the trunk itself. The stock amp is mounted to the wheel well on the driver side of the trunk. Overall, installation was very simply but time consuming and required a variety of tools. Getting into the trunk was honestly the hardest part, but I'm getting old, young people should have no problem with that part. If I had one serious complaint it would be that the antenna adapter at the trunk end is loose, I needed to use some electrical tape to keep the antenna from unplugging.Tip: use the brackets (the 2 side pieces of black plastic in the Metra kit) instead of the metal cage that comes with the aftermarket radio, and screw the radio into the Metra kit. That way you can use the matte plastic trim that comes with the Metra kit rather than the (likely) glossy trim that comes with the aftermarket radio. It gives a much cleaner look. I'll try to add a photo later.

From tape deck to cd player in 3 hours!!!
Installed this in my 06 Taurus SE yesterday (with a single DIN Pioneer deck) and I am beyond happy!!! Just for complete disclosure- I am a woman, moderately technically savvy, and very good at finding videos on Google to help me tackle most any problem. The hardest part was running the wiring from the trunk. It's a pain in the butt to maneuver it through all of those little tight spaces (from the speaker/antenna hookup, through the back of the seat, down into the gutter underneath the driver's side rear door trim, to the driver's side front door trim gutter, up through the side dash panel, underneath the dash and up behind the hole that the new faceplate and deck will be going back into.)I DID have a friend come over just to make sure I didn't tear anything up beyond repair, or blow myself up, and I'm really glad I did because the literature regarding the final steps (splicing and crimping the deck's pigtail wiring into the wiring that was run up from the trunk) is VERY vague! In the end, it was mostly a job of matching up the colors, but there were a couple of wires that we didn't use (because my car doesn't have those options) (i.e. the retractable antenna), so these we just capped off. I'm definitely happy I had someone else to help out with that part because it's a little tricky.Overall, I would say it took us about 3 hours to complete the project from start to finish, but part of that time was spent procuring a wire stripper/crimping tool and the little connectors and caps for splicing the deck to the main wiring pigtail. My oversight...In the end, it fits perfectly flush, everything works just like it should and I don't have a TAPE DECK in a 2006 vehicle anymore! Hallelujah!!! Would recommend this product to anyone looking to remove the factory tape deck and do an aftermarket cd deck install. Very, very, VERY happy with this purchase!!! 😊😊😊

A Great Solution.
So I purchased this kit for my wife's '07 Taurus. She has a long commute and enjoys listening to podcasts and audiobooks via her mp3 player. Previously, I'd been using the PIE adapter that is so very popular. You can see it here:[...]However, I had TWO of these units fail on me. On both units, one of the channels just quit working. Crutchfield wouldn't replace them, as there is only a 90 day warranty on them. So I went in search of a more permanent and reliable solution. Thus, I found myself looking at the Metra kit. I picked up for what I think is a good price (under $70) and I had some gift cards for Best Buy leftover from Christmas so I went online and picked up a relatively low-end Pioneer Head Unit that has an AUX input on the front plate and rear RCA inputs. The install went very easily, make sure you have the loop things for pulling out the stock head unit. Running the wires to the trunk was not hard at all, and it was actually very easy installing the Pioneer HU into the Metra unit since it was all out of the car when you do it. The overall fit is very snug and tight in the car, and it all works very well. The plastic its made of doesn't match the original unit, but then, I wasn't expecting a beautiful amazing piece of equipment. I wanted functional, and it is.Overall, I would readily recommend the Metra Kit to ANYONE with a Taurus / Sable along with an affordable aftermarket head unit. In the end, its reliable money well spent.

Very cool . Adaptador Ford Taurus 2000
El adaptador cumple muy bien con su función. No es complicado. solo cambiar con paciencia los controles del Aire acondicionado para no romper nada. Y se conecta la iluminación de los controles con un conector que incluye hacia el conector original del radio.

Good Value-BUT READ!!!!
Good piece! DO NOT BUY ADAPTER HARNESS as suggested by Amazon’s “frequently bought with…” suggestion, the harness is built in with this unit! Uses factory climate switches that need transfer over. Very happy with finish!

2006 Taurus Install.
Works out OK...simple install..however, AM reception greatly reduced due to extended length of antenna cable which doesn't seem to be well matched to the tuner .
