Happy New Year to You!: A Read-Aloud Book for Memory-Challenged Adults

Lovely book
My mother has Alzheimer's and I ordered the book to be able to do something with her to fill some of the silence after I run out of things to tell her. (She can no longer speak.). I brought the book to her and it brought a beautiful smile to her face as we turned each page. She tried to read some of the words and was able to get a few out. How much is that worth? Now when I go to her residence, I have to go and fine the book because it is always being borrowed for others. I'm so happy I bought this for my mom.

Not that great
There is only one sentence to read aloud per page. My mother's dementia and low vision made looking at the pictures impossible and the suggested questions in the back only irritated her. If there had been more to read to her, it might have worked out. She enjoy being read to, but not being subjected to endless questions about things that she can't remember. You might want to suggest which stage of dementia (memory challenge) this book is good for, such as early to early middle.

Happy New Year
First time I purchased a used book through Amazon. Very disappointing to receive this particular book with pages ripped out. The pages were ideas to use with discussions for a memory care group I volunteer to work with each week. The binding was not intact and book should not have been sold through Amazon. It is falling apart!!Garage sale special only....The other book, that I ordered, same owner going by the name written on the cover, was OK. I doubt that I will order a used book again especially if Amazon is not going to weed out the truly unfit ones to sell to the public.

Excellent! Highly recommended by SLP!
I'm a speech-language pathologist and I love to use the books in this series for my patients with dementia. The books have large print simple sentences and colorful illustrations. I love them because they are appropriate for adults. In the back of the book, there are suggestions for conversation expanders and songs for each page. Highly recommend for therapists/families/caregivers of people with dementia.

Wonderful!
This is perfect for my mother and for others in the memory care facility where she is residing now. I was so pleased to donate this book and the other two by Lydia Burdick written specifically for memory-challenged adults. The illustrations are beautiful. When I read one to my mother and showed her and another lady the illustrations their faces lit up! Thank you for making these available!!

The illustrations are wonderful. I highly recommend any of her books
My mother has late stage dementia and has difficulty understanding what she is reading--except when reading Lydia Burdick's books. The illustrations are wonderful. I highly recommend any of her books.

A delight for reader and caregiver
My late mother adored this and Lydia Burdick's other books for memory-challenged adults. She read through them frequently with me and with other caregivers and was always delighted; they gently stimulated her conversational and observational skills. I have recommended them to many other caregivers. I wish there were more of them!Perhaps because one is so aware of the seasons and holidays as a child, she could still relate to them in her second childhood and enjoyed reliving experiences in this book.My only complaint is that the words "for memory-challenged adults" should not appear on these books--or should be on a removable sticker. My mother often read those words and asked about them, and knowing that she was memory challenged was not helpful to her.Tinky Weisblat, author of Pulling Taffy: A Year with Dementia and Other Adventures

Excellent!!!!!!
This is a wonderful book for memory-challenged adults. It has been a great revelation to me that my husband is able to read and enjoy this book.We need more books and tools like this for patients with dementia. They are more capable than you think they are.
