Seems as good as they always have been
First off, current image and product details are incorrect here, but the model number and text are correct and I received what I expected to. I haven't seen a current production head or square set from Starrett in many years, but considering some of their other products recently I was a little worried about what quality I might receive. The head is great, well finished and machined, all aspects of it, just like they always have been. Dead nuts square with three blades I tried (Starrett, PEC blemish, and an old Swanson...although the Swanson wanted to bind up at points in the travel for some reason). I think I got really lucky there because I never expect sliding heads to be dead on, even from Starrett. The scribe does fit a little less snugly than it should but I can address that. These are so much nicer than the PEC models and all brands using their heads, or any of the imports. Well worth the cost for a very nice bit of tooling.

Great Replacement!
I needed this as a replacement for the 24” combo I bought originally. I must have dropped it one to many times and it got out of square. This is a great alternative to spending another $100+ on the blade and head since there was nothing wrong with the blade.

unsavoury feelings
This is a terrible product, yes it was genuinely square, prior to using it to mark 4 sheets of 1.5mm 304 stainless (Deburred / safe to slide finger along)I noticed gouges after approximatley 20 lines were set In from the side, I make kitchen benches etc,I brought this item because of the marketing on it, "forged and hardened" more like potentially harder than a toothpick but may recieve battle scars,This item is worse than the blue mass produced combination set everyone usually has,I guess I thought this would be in competition with mitutoya,I also emailed Starret Re: this ^Never heard back from them

Starret quality, just like my first Starret square head that lasted 35 years until I damaged it.

A matching replacement for the original
Every bit as good as the original. Well built, accurate - can't tell the difference. I picked up a Starrett long scale at a garage sale, this completes it.

quality product if you need starrett
Starrett quality is a given when you need/want highest precision in your tools. I would buy starrett for their quality.
