The Closers: Harry Bosch Series, Book 11

One of the better Bosch novels
This is one of the better Bosch novels—particularly for those novels taking place after Harry’s retirement. There was high jingo, but at its essence, it was Harry at his very best.

Harry's Out Of Retirement
Completely bored with retirement, Harry has some strings pulled and is back on the force. Partnered once more with Kiz, they are consigned to cold cases. The storyline, here, is part suspense and part police procedural regarding a seventeen-year-old murder.I thought this to be a bit slower paced than many other Bosch novels. Though there is a good deal of “Heart” added into the novel, it could have been pared down a bit in some areas. Yet, the reader will have a tough time trying to name the guilty party. The book does benefit from a particularly good ending. No, I’m not being sarcastic. I thought the ending was very well played. Onto the next.

Harry is back!
After retiring from the force, Harry takes a job closing old cases that haven’t been solved. He’s not really a member of the police force, but he’s doing what he loves. This all leads to a fascinating, frustrating case…Read it. It’s Bosch at his best!Thx Michael

Yet another engrossing Michael Connelly Read
When It come to mysteries, murder of otherwise, I don't know of anyone I can count on for a great read more than Michael Connelly and his new novel The Closers is no exception. How does his new novel compare with his previous gems? I don't know, it's hard to say, they're all good but I will say this, I never read one of his books faster. I put The Closers down once in a twenty-four hour period. The Closers is Connelly's eleventh Hieronymous (Harry) Bosch novel and his fifteenth overall. Cold cases seem to be popular now, so Connelly gets into the Cold Case act with Bosch who after a three year absence, retirement actually, returns to the LA police force and is assigned to their O.U. (Open-Unsolved) Task Force, where he's teamed up with his old partner Kiz Rider.Their first case is the abduction, right out of her bedroom and subsequent cold blooded murder of a sixteen year old girl, seventeen years ago. Finally after seventeen years, a sample of DNA (which wasn`t available at the time of the crime) was processed from the murder weapon and there was a match. Unfortunately the DNA was tied only to the weapon and not the girl, plus it appeared that more than one person may have participated, which led Bosch and Rider to try to set a trap but in the meantime exhaustive perusal of the murder book and interviews of witnesses etc. indicated that there may have been malfeasance committed by some of the police that were involved and the murder may have even been a hate crime, since the victim was half black.Old department enemies seem to be keeping an eye on this case and giving Bosch trouble as he goes but he will not be deterred and leaves no stone unturned as he is driven to solve this long-term cold case, that has ruined more than one life.ConclusionIf you've never read a book by Michael Connelly, I strongly recommend him. I have read all of his books and he is excellent. My favorite happens to be Angel Flight but any book by him will do.Connelly writes in a manner that always make sense and is easy to read. He never comes up with stories that you would find unbelievable and yet they are immensely interesting. He must do a lot of research, for it shows in his writing. I realize he used to be a crime reporter but still his knowledge of police procedures and jingo is impressive. Some may think of his character development as weak but in this book at least, there is no reason to get to know any but the main characters. Even so, beside rooting solidly for Bosch and Rider, the reader will find himself empathizing with the mother and father for the great loss they have sustained, both of whom have not, even after seventeen years, been able to pick up the pieces of their lives. You are also able to experience the tension between Bosch and Irvin Irving, his old nemesis and former Chief. In short the character development is directed where it enhances the story and no more. Connelly's writing tends to be laconic and to the point. no flowery descriptions, no filler. Even so this book is still four hundred pages.

I guessed the killer immediately and I was right all along.
The book is very procedural with not much deviation and not much about Bosch and his personal life. But what is there is very good. However the book being as procedural and case focused as it is it is easy to guess what Bosch and rider are going to do from chapter to chapter because the suspects and the witnesses they have to talk to are basically all laid out for the reader. A lot of charectors are talked to and asked the same questions. What makes it more interesting is the picture that starts to form from all the people they talk to and the information that is learned. From this comes the best part of reading a murder mystery novel, guessing the killer. Sometimes Connelly has dissapointed with the reveal of the killer being the kind of person you’d expect it would be, which is not really the norm, usually it’s someone you don’t expect. At least that’s the way I think it should be. My gut tells me this one is heading toward the reveal of a more surprising suspect since there is so much focus on one suspect in this book the rules of a mystery in my opinion say that it isn’t that charector. I believe I’ve guessed who the killer is. They only have appeared briefly in the book but I thought basically when this charector appeared that they were the one. The victim was pregnant and got an abortion. She never told anyone before she was killed. Based on this I think she didn’t want anyone to know who the father was. And the father didn’t want anyone to know about it either so he killed her probably not knowing she had already gotten an abortion. That’s my current theory. Which would mean the motive currently has nothing to do with Bosch’s current line of investigation most likely. I can’t wait to finish the book and find out if I am right.Long story short I was right. Does that make it a bad mystery? No. I just had all this information in my head from the book that clicked with a certain charector. I just knew instantly. I never really changed my mind about it while reading either and I’m glad I didn’t because I was right. Great read.

Classic Connelly
Bosch returns after 3 years in retirement to help solve a 17 year old murder that comes with attendant interdepartmental politics. Absolutely enthralling!

Harry is Back with bang
I loved the cold case and emotional turmoil it had over years on those who suffered. It is difficult, interesting and full of suspense. I hope to read more of Harry Bosch solving cold cases.

Spannend
Bosch kommt aus dem Ruhestand zurück und zeigt, dass er nach wie vor bereit ist, Verbrechern das Handwerk zu legen. Egal, ob von außen oder aus dem LAPD. Und natürlich verliert er wieder Freundschaften.

Harry Bosch, meu detetive favorito
