Q: Do I have to mount to garage floor for it the work ?

Yes it would just skid forward if not. I just cleaned the floor and used 3M mounting tape on all the contact points to the floor.

Q: How much does each block weigh?

They are about 6 pounds each. They will not work just by their weight alone. They need to be anchored some way. I was able to just use 3M mounting tape on all the contact points with the floor (smooth cement) and haven't had any trouble with them.
