The splitter is a pretty simple solution to add EV charging at home from the dryer outlet. This particular splitter is 30A but they have 50A versions too.NOTE: you cannot charge the EV and run the dryer at the same time.

Charges Tesla Model Y just fine at 240V / 24A. No issues whatsoever - no overheating etc.Just make sure to not turn on the dryer at the same time the car charges.

I was recently quoted almost $1,000 for the installation of a 10-30 outlet in the garage from an approved Tesla contractor. A DIYer could install the same outlet for at a fraction of the cost, but electrical work can be complex and risky. So I looked into products that might allow me to share the 10-30 outlet from my dryer instead. There are companies that sell boxes that split one dryer outlet into two. Before spending $200-300 on one of those boxes and an additional $50 extension cord, I ran across this splitter cord and realized that it could serve the same purpose. So far I have not been disappointed. I've run the cord through a utility room wall into the garage and are now able to charge my EV at 25 MPH, instead of the 5-6 MPH of a regular outlet. the cord is sturdy and seems to be high quality. And having 20 feet of cord coming off of one side of the splitter was exactly what I needed to reach my car. I don't absolutely need Level 2 charging, but it was absolutely worth it for the $130 I spent on this splitter, wall plates and other small supplies. I only need to be careful to not run the dryer while charging. This is nice product that perfectly serves my needs.

Charging my Tesla

I use this splitter so I can keep the dryer and my EV charger plugged in at the same time- as long as I remember not to run the dryer and charge the car simultaneously. It was surprisingly hard to find an item like this and I couldn't believe how expensive it was, but I'm pleased with the way it works as hoped for.

If your laundry room is next to your garage, this is your best investment. I just ran the cable through the way and have my charging station. Saved me more than a thousand bucks running a dedicated 240 v line from the fuse box on the opposite side of the house

Just what I was looking for after quotes to install a fast charger for my EV were coming in at $3k. No additional wiring needed, just a note on the dryer to the fam not to use the dryer after midnight. Saved a ton and charge my EV 23 mi/hr. Love it!
