Lesche 1V_WWMFG-TH18-SER-L Mini Sampson 18" T-Handle Shovel with Serrated Blade

I was reluctant to spend nearly $70 for another tool for metal detecting, but this shovel is well worth the investment. The first thing I noticed about the shovel is that it's built like a tank. It's not flimsy by any stretch, and the welds are macho grade. The only way I'd have to replace the shovel is if I lose it, or it grows legs -- I doubt it will ever wear out. The large handle is comfortable and allows for much greater torque when wrestling a plug from compacted soil. It also can handle large plugs much faster than the standard digging tool. What I like best about it, though, is it's very unobtrusive. It's deceptively light and much easier to carry than the larger GI shovel I used to use. Plus, because the blade is narrower and sharper than the GI shovel, cutting a smaller plug makes for a smaller footprint. I cut plugs with my right hand in a clockwise direction, and would prefer serrations on the left side of the blade -- like my Lesche digging tool -- but I don't know if that's yet an option. Even so, I give the Mini Sampson a solid 5 stars.

This isn't my first Lesche. They are very well made. I also have the digging tool, and the 36 inch ground shark - both awesome.It's a great size for metal detecting in parks. I still carry my digging tool on my belt for small jobs, but I primarily us the 18" for most of my digs. I used to carry the 36 inch Shark, but it's a little intimidating in a park full of people (I think the landscaping crew gets a little worried!). I still use the Land Shark for more remote jobs - it's awesome, but like I said, a little scary to see someone walking in a park with! The 18 inch saves a ton of time, usually one good scoop does it, and you then have a good plug to put back into the ground - no big mess to clean up. Works great even around trees with lots of roots.

This is the best, a little pr icy but this tool will last you a life time. This tool is so great when I put one nee on the ground to dig my target while metal detecting and this cat will cut a plug to get your target out and all you have to do is just fold the plug back over your hole and its like you never even dug that spot. Best in my book of great digging tools

Small size makes it super handy to use. Easy to carry. Just wish the top of shovel was a bit wider to make it easier to get a boot on!

holy crap is this well made. small and rugged as hell. extremely well made. buy it.

Bought this for metal detecting and this has improved my experience by far. The cutting edge is very sharp and slices thru the toughest of roots. I am able to cut perfect plugs and replace them so the ground looks practically undisturbed. This is not too large to take into public parks and intimidate other park visitors. This is a must have for metal detecting.

This shovel is awesome. Its compact but sturdy beyond belief, a real workhorse. Easy to carry by hand, or in a small backpack. This thing will last a lifetime!
