Excellent Alternative to Field Notes
I have used Field Notes brand notebooks on-and-off for nearly a decade. The convenient size has always made it easy to have a notebook within reach throughout my day. However, I'm changing careers (medical school) and while having a pocketable notebook is more important than ever, the clinical setting introduces several new requirements that Field Notes just don't meet. So I went looking for a new notebook and found the MoMa MUJI, I have been very pleased with the MUJI and will be purchasing more in the future. Here's why:1. Hard covers. I'm often in a position where I can't stop to find a surface to write on, and Field Notes covers are rather flimsy. The MoMa MUJI notebooks are bound in heavier stock, and I don't have to fold the binding over on itself or find a solid writing surface to start jotting down notes.2. Aesthetic. I have always liked the "expedition journal" look of Field Notes products. However, while working with patients, I don't want my notebook to draw attention. The MUJI notebooks are understated, and look professional.3. Size. At slightly larger than Field Notes, the MUJI is still very pocketable, but the extra couple of centimeters add real-estate that I appreciate.4. Quality. I feel the paper quality of the MUJI is on par with Field Notes. I am not a calligrapher or paper connoisseur, but the pages soak up the ink from my Pilot G2 quickly with no smudging. I can write confidently on both sides of each page with no appreciable bleed-through. The stitched, taped binding is superior to the staples used in Field Notes. A well-used Field Notes notebook begins to look rough at the binding as the staples wear through the cover. I have no such worries with the MUJI notebook.5. Price. MoMa MUJI notebooks are 5 for $10 ($2/unit) vs Field Notes 3 for $10 ($3.33/unit). However, it is important to point out that the MUJI notebooks have 30 pages (x5 notebooks = $0.066/page) and Field Notes have 48 pages (x3 notebooks = $0.069/page). So the per-page cost difference is negligible. Ultimately it comes down to how you want your pages distributed. Personally, given how easily my notebooks get lost or destroyed before I fill them up, I prefer more notebooks with fewer pages.

My Favorite Pocket Notebook.
I love these. The size is perfect, I really appreciate the extra bit of real estate over the standard 3.5 x 5.5 Field Notes size. The paper is great and I've found it to be quite fountain pen friendly. No bleeding or feathering with any nib/ink combos I've used. I also prefer the stitched binding on these to staples. All that, plus they're an incredible value! Can't beat it.

Who loves all things stationary? This girl. Put Japanese in front of stationary and I'm sold. Gave a couple as little gift & kept a couple for myself.

UPDATE: Not as great for fountain pens as I expected.
I originally ordered these for use as daily carry pocket notebooks for my fountain pens. I briefly tested them with my fountain pens and thought it turned out nice at first. Then a few days after, I started to notice the paper quality was very hit-or-miss like when I used Leuchtturm paper. Some pages looked completely fine when I wrote on them with my fountain pens while other ones looked downright awful. I got so much feathering on several pages.I gave two stars because of the fluctuating paper quality only being an issue with fountain pens. I can see people who don't care about that who prefer rollerballs, ballpoints, or pencils not having any issues with these. But I found it appalling that the paper quality fluctuates so much, sometimes when I'm writing on the same page with a fountain pen. It would also be one thing if it was just a little feathering, but the amount I had was unacceptable. Letters on the page would look like they were fraying out over the paper, it was that bad.

These are great little notebooks at a great price
These are great little notebooks at a great price. My only complaint is that the black covers are rather faded. I cover them with scrapbook paper anyway, so for my purposes it's not a deal breaker. For someone who intended to leave them as they are having a darker black rectangle where the label used to be and a slightly brownish overall color might be problematic.

Wrong size
Misleading size. I was looking for the bigger size of this notebook and the description misled me to think it was the exact notebook I was looking for.

Way much better than Moleskine
Way much better than Moleskine both to prevent bleeding and ghosting. The size is little bit larger and this is perfect. Can easily keep it on my pants pocket as a good EDC.
