Best weighted line sketch pen ever for Drawing, Illustrating and Handwriting signatures with a flurish!
The Tombow Zoom pen is fantastic. Sadly, I didn't get a paper crane or note but the pen is amazing. There is no skipping in the smooth flowing and consistent lines and it is the perfect pen for black India ink sketching. The tip is wonderfully responsive to pressure and produces lines of varied weight with finely tapered lift lines. the ink is quick-drying and waterproof making the addition of marker or watercolors easy. Pigma Microns are great but they can't create the same responsive weighted lines. Tombow refills for X-fine .03, Fine .05, (from Norisco) and Med. .07 line weights (from Plex Supply) can be purchased from Amazon. (Great for signing my books.) The Tombow Roll Pen Jr. 0.3 is apparently no longer available and I purchased this pen to replace it -- My favorite sketch pen ever! I lost one of my Tombow Jr. pens and 10 years later the ink still flowed perfectly and had not dried out in the tip. I couldn't have been more pleased. The Tombow Zoom works just as well. I only wish they were more easily available. I first purchased the Jr. pens in an art supply store years ago. Thank you Tombow for making this instrument available at an affordable price.

Inexpensive Writing and Sketching Pen
I use this pen mostly for taking Gregg Shorthand notes. It has a "grippy" feel as the roller ball moves across the paper, so it's perfect for quick changes in direction. I suppose another way of describing it is that it's not as smooth a writer as say the G2, but the kind of writing I do requires a less smooth response. The barrel is aluminum, and is cigar-shaped. It's fatter than most pens, and that suits me just fine because I have very long fingers. I prefer to write with the cap posted because without it the pen feels too short in my hand. However, the cap easily works its way loose and pops off. To prevent this, I wrapped a piece of athletic tape near the end of the barrel to give the cap more friction. Looks odd, but works like a charm. The cap has a solid clip that makes this pen easy to wear in a pocket or attached to a notebook. The "rubbery" grip is comfortable for me, and ensures the pen will not cause callouses on my knuckles. This is a great, inexpensive, knock-around pen. If I lose it, I'm not going to be too upset. What I won't enjoy is having to buy refills. These things ARE expensive when compared to other pen refills. And sadly, other brands cannot be substituted or modified to fit inside this barrel. Maybe that will change as the Zoom 505 becomes more popular. I use the 0.5 mm refill, and haven't had the opportunity of trying the 0.7 mm version. That writing experience may differ somewhat. But for me, the finer more precise line is the most important element. I think this pen (at least in the 0.5 mm version) makes a good sketching tool as well. There are other pens I might go to first when sketching, but this pen's ink flow is enough that it makes a nice dark line without dumping too much pigment onto the paper. It dries quickly, and can be used for line & wash.

Very good rollerball, punches far above its price point
My second Tombow rollerball - I loved my first and gave it to my wife. Perhaps not as flashy in the hand as the Pelikan I later gifted my wife, but certainly not as finicky as the Waterman fountain she gave me. The Tombow is very well made, sturdy, balanced, has a gratifying heft in the hand, and the rollerball cartridge flows without scratchiness or interruption. Overall a very good writing experience, and the price means very high value and you won't be kicking yourself if you happen to, say, leave it at the airport.

Nice pen. No smearing of ink; very fast drying.
I like the look and feel of this pen. It's attractive, and would make a very nice gift. Nice fit for a man's hand; might be a bit big for a woman or child's hand. Very nice gel ink with no smearing, even right after laying down the ink line. I wish it came in a nice vibrant geen or blue; jade or aqua. But a very good pen overall!

Heavy pen with a VERY BOLD point (1.5mm or so)
This is a heavy pen with a nice line, and it encourages writing well. The cap doesn't post well, but a pen like this is better unposted for most people. Overall it is a quality item, and it works for a lefty. For me, however, it is unsuitable for a few reasons, perhaps related more to the listing than to the pen. First, it lays down a VERY thick line---about double the width of my 0.7mm Pilot G2. That is okay for headings, but way too heavy for my normal writing. (I tested on Midori paper.) Second, the metal O-ring (where the cap fits) digs into my thumb, making what could be an ergonomic pen very uncomfortable. I want a reason to keep it, but sadly it is going back today.

Affordable and writes really well
I bought the Tombow ultra rollerball pen in red to use for my bullet journal. When my bf saw this pen, he really loved it and wanted one for himself to use for work. So I gave it to him and decided to buy another one in black for myself. I came across the Tombow zoom 505 rollerball pen which was significantly cheaper than the ultra. Not really clear what the difference is between the two but I took the chance and ordered it anyway. When the zoom 505 pen arrived, the only difference I could tell was the packaging. Literally. The zoom came in wrapped in plastic while the ultra came in abox with the pen case. They look the same, write the same, take the same exact refill and even weigh exactly 30 grams each. Both are great pens, one is just more expensive with a case which is great for a gift. It writes really well but depending on the paper, there might be some ghosting. If you use the Leuchttrum1917 journal, the ghosting is pretty visible versus the Scribbles That Matter journal.

Smooth writing experience
So smooth. Excellent for long periods of writing, larger size grip reduces strain. Ordered one and have now ordered a second.

Very smooth writer. The pen is a bit on the heavier side. Comfortable to hold due to the rubberized grip. The threads are nice and fit tightly, therefore they can benefit from greasing. The cap is hold in place by pressure and has a white plastic insert. Very strong clip. Seems sturdy and durable. It comes in a simple black cardboard box, as shown. For the price, 5 stars.
