We were missing this piece to our sink which meant that things were finding their way down the drain. All fun and games until its an old braces retainer! Luckily we retrieved the retainer, and replaced the missing piece with the one above. It worked perfectly.

If you're like me, you came here looking for a replacement Kohler pop-up stopper and found two nearly identical listings (1036994 and 1037021). And per the listing pics you might think the only difference is the 1037021 has a plain chrome top piece vs. the 1036994 which as the word 'Kohler' across it. Well, I (like I assume many buyers) chose the wrong one, so I ended up having to buy both of them to finally get the right one for my need.The only difference between the two is in the gray finned piece that slides into the drain opening. The 1037021 is physically larger fitting a drain opening diameter of approximately 1+1/4" while the 1036994's finned piece fits a drain opening of approx 1+1/8". Despite the listing picture differences, the other two pieces in the kit (the chrome top piece w/rubber gasket and the plastic screw) are identical between the two kits. Both of mine had the 'Kohler" name etched in the surface of the chrome top.To help you decide which one you needed, I took a pic (attached) showing the two side-by-side. If you have the original finned piece, simple measure across the edges of any 2 fins. The small one (1036994) measures about 1", while the larger one (1037021) measures about 1+1/8". Note that those measurements are not the diameter of the piece, but are much easier to quickly measure.Now that I've received the correct kit, all is good. In my case I didn't need the top chrome piece (my drain is polished brass). I just needed the finned piece and the plastic screw and moved the original polished brass top over to the new pieces. (Both of my OEM pieces were metal and had disintegrated over 30 years). Amazingly these repair pieces are still available after 30 years and fit perfectly.

The product was not as pictured. The very important screw is not included. I had to purchase one. I didn't see anything in the description saying that it wasn't included. It's obviously there in the picture.I haven't installed it yet, and it's very inexpensive - so I have no further opinions.

Top is not adequately scratch resistant. Need to remove entire aparatus to clean drain hole. Top cannot be removed for drain cleaning
