Excellent study of Jeremiah.
Wonderful commentary for my study of Jeremiah. Together with True Word for Tough Times by Dale Ralph Davis I learned so much more from this study than ever before. You can read the Bible all you want, but unless you really dig into it by finding some outstanding commentaries you only skim the very surface. Christopher Wright has become one of my favorite writers and as I continue to study God's Word his books will occupy my bookcases as valuable tools in my quest to seek and know God better. He gives wonderful insights into the heart of Yahweh and Jeremiah as they plead with the Jewish people to turn to their loving God for forgiveness and cleansing....and life. But, instead, they (the Jews) refuse God's grace and ignore His warnings given through Jeremiah. Mr. Wright takes you there and you feel as though you're living it as Jeremiah is. The fact that the whole scenario is frighteningly like America's current arrogant disregard for God's values makes it even more compelling reading. Every morning I eagerly dived into my study and was always amply rewarded.Jeremiah isn't a popular book for preacher's or regular readers of the Bible. But along with this commentary you'll find a treasure trove of insights into the heart of our patient and loving God. Highly recommended.

I loved this commentary
Wow! I loved this commentary. I read this as a requirement for a Jeremiah and OT Prophets course I took. LOVED the overview of the book and chapters. It helped my understand the book as a whole, especially the outline of the book. One of my favorite take aways from this book was how Wright clearly articulated the author's purpose and formatting. Many will say Jeremiah has no clear outline but this commentary made it very clear how the book was structured. It helped me to better understand the book's purpose as a whole, as well as the historical background. For the first time I am understanding Israel's history of God's judgment of exile. More than God's judgment in this book, the love of God is highlighted in how He left them with a future promise of restoration. So many great, on point applications in this commentary. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

An Excellent Commentary
This is a very helpful, very readable commentary on Jeremiah. It is a well-written study of Jeremiah, the man and his prophecies. The introduction is excellent in presenting the historical background and explaining the back-and-forth, not chronological, structure of the book. The author tells us that, although the series has a wide range of readers, he has pastors and preachers particularly in view. His theological and exegetical reflections, however, are practical for any leaders or participants in Bible studies. His style makes vivid many scenes. I can see clearly in my mind the picture of Jehoiakim methodically listening to and rejecting the Word, deliberately cutting off and burning each section as it is read.

One of the finest commentaries you will ever read on one of the Biblical prophets!
Christopher Wright has written a truly epic commentary - one of the finest I have read. He is faithful to the text and extraordinary in applying it to the three horizons included in the prophets - the present (the time it was delivered & written), the time of the exiles when it was received and read, and the the yet future time in the prophetic future of Israel and the church. Each chapter contains key teaching/preaching points related to text that was studied. A truly remarkable, inspired work.

READ (SOME) COMMENTARIES LIKE REGULAR BOOKS
Commentaries on books of the Bible are not created equally. You have to be shrewd in what you consult. The better ones come in all different types from the devotional to the technical. My favorite ones are those that combine great care with the text of Scripture, are well-written, and offer many connections to our own time and day. Right now, I am reading one of these kinds of commentaries: Christopher Wright’s terrific work on Jeremiah. It is part of The Bible Speaks Today series (InterVarsity Press). Here is something I pondered today:“The reign of King Josiah was a time of great religious fervent and national resurgence. It was all very impressive. But what was God’s point of view? According to Jeremiah God sees a people who are a disappointment to God, who are being disloyal to their covenant relationship with God, who are already feeling the shock of disasters that foreshadow worse to come, and who are living in brazen denial and delusion. It is a frightening mirror to hold up to the people of God in any generation, with stark relevance to our own.”

Dig deep
This is an excellent book to take you through the book of Jeremiah and you'll be taken on a deep walk, into hard places and difficult passages to read but a great way to dig deep and build a foundation with the word of God. The author is really good at explaining the passage, at times difficult to read and understand but worth sticking with.

Marvelous teaching
I was privileged to hear Chris Wright in person last year in Banchory and Aberdeen. This book confirms his great gift for Bible teaching. There is a lesson or insight in almost every line of prose.
