Large historical waterproof book of sectional maps, with descriptions and directions.
The book gives clear images of the terrain through which paddlers and rafters will be traveling while in the Grand Canyon, and general instructions on how to navigate the frequent and difficult rapids in the canyon. Additional useful info is given, regarding campsites, permits required for some; and attractions, and areas which have been closed to public use are shown. Overall, an excellent reference book to carry when you go down the Canyon, even if you go on a guided trip.

Single best book for rafting Grand Canyon
I had several river guide books, hikes from the river books, and general GC hike books on my recent private river trip. Tom Martin's book was the best river guide book, the one that was always open and being reviewed to plan upcoming rapids, campsites, side hikes, etc. His "Day Hikes" was the best for side hikes.Next time (I wish!!!), I wouldn't buy any other river guidebooks, and would only bring along this book and Tom Martin's "Day Hikes from the River" on the actual trip.

Colorado River Guide
I recently went on a 21 day Colorado River trip, I purchased the guide book as an extra to leave with my Mom (88) who was able to follow my trip down river on a daily basis. We used a SAT. device to send back daily accounts of our progress. With colored photos and mile markers and other pertinent information, it worked as I had hoped. This is a great guide book. The guide books we did have on the rafts got wet and silty yet the pages never showed any wear. I would purchase it again. The newest updates were very useful too.

Great durable reference
Used it during our dory trip down the Colorado River from Lee's Ferry to Pearce Ferry. I was a guest on a commercial trip with very experienced river guides/oars person. The manual was a handy reference guide. It was popular among all the guests and we passed it around in camp. Its pages are durable and water resistant. It held up under the constant sand blasting in camp and the occasional wet bag leakage.

If you are rafting/kayaking on a private trip down the Grand Canyon this is a must have guide. The mileage/camps/rapids are all listed. I would suggest researching the lines and beta for the bigger rapids as this guide is a bit lacking in that area. My book was soaked on my trip and the waterproof pages held up to the challenge.
