Exactly what I expected from Gerber. A quality pocket knife at a great price. Lightweight and durable.

This knife is my go to everyday knife. I carry it at least 80-90% of the time. It's small enough you don't notice it when it's in your pocket but large enough to get most jobs done. The only reason I don't carry it 100% of the time is that I got a kershaw assisted opening tanto that I have grown as fond of as this knife.Pro's:I love the blade and the lightness of this knife, for its size you can't beat the light weight. the opening mech is great out of the box and for someone who uses their knife a lot (I am one of those people) I want a knife that opens fast and easy one handed but is not so loose when you open it that it feels flemsy. This knife doesn't have any of that at all.Cons:This knife is a great little knife but it is slim and the handle is not really built to fit bigger hands. I could have definitely gotten the larger size EVO tanto and been okay with it. If you can get past the slim blade and slim handle there isn't anything wrong with this little knife. I will be giving it as a gift to a few of my buddies this Christmas that's for sure.

This is a great little knife. I like to have something to use at work for miscellaneous cutting such as boxes or packages or whatever. I needed to have something that is small enough not to be considered a 'weapon' according to the law. This is a small blade but is handy because the flat part is good for scraping and prying and the serrated edge is excellent for cutting string or packaging.I like how Gerber's release mechanism works, you can use the little knob on the side to flick the blade out, or the extension on the back of the blade to lever it out. This mechanism is very handy for one handed use. I would probably recommend this blade type for anyone and this particular blade for general, outdoor, or even military or law enforcement use. The serrated edge is very helpful in cutting a seatbelt in an emergency or many other emergency situations.I have used Gerber knives many times in my Marine Corps career, I carried several of them during my three tours in Iraq. They are handy for a number of reasons, but I have found that their durability and quality is excellent. These smaller and less expensive knives are just as good as the bigger and more expensive versions. I definately recommend this item and the other, similar knives from Gerber.

Once in a while, you can find a knife for under $20 that could easily pass for a $60-plus blade. This is one of those knives. I've been carrying this knife every day for about 3 months now and it's definitely a winner in a lot of areas, but it does have it's limitations for being a sub $20 knife. Let's go down the list.- Uses. I would say this fits pretty squarely into the category of a "utility" blade. I use this in the Army to open all kinds of packages and fasteners and to cut all kinds of line. I use the EVO at home and work to open or cut whatever I need. I can use the serrations to saw away at something thicker or tougher like a cord. I can use the larger cutting edge for slicing something large like a box. I can use the short, Tanto edge of the blade for something more delicate, too. What about other uses? Tactical. You bet. It deploys very quickly and easily, and the Tanto blade gives it just a bit more reach than your average clip blade. The 3.12-inch blade is just enough to reach out to someone in a tactical, fighting situation (though most fighting blades are 4 more inches or more) and the large finger-flipper helps keep your hand from sliding up the handle pretty well. Though tactical blade may be a stretch, one final use would be survival. While this knife will not split a block of wood, the serrations will allow you to cut through some pretty thick kindling and vine. This knife could easily skin small game, as well.- Functionality. It deploys quickly with a flick of the wrist and thumb. It locks tightly and does not wiggle when open. The liner lock is easy to dis-engage. Overall, the knife is very light (2.40 ounce) for the price. At this price, you'd expect the kind of Chinese knife you find at the gas station that weighs more than your keys. Yet it never feels heavy in my pocket--even ankle pocket. The aluminum handles and single steel liner help keep the weight low. The grind on the blade is pretty steep, and that does add to weight a little. A flat ground blade would be better for a lot of reasons. The low-profile clip is serviceable and stays tightly closed around a pocket.- Ergos. I've got to ding it on the ergos. This is where I'm going to be a little critical of the EVO, and the reason this knife only gets 4 stars from me. The aluminum handle with the cutout pattern doesn't really do it for me. There's nothing to grip. The handle profile is pretty straight, so it doesn't fit into the hand very naturally. As I said before, the finger-flipper alone is what makes me think this is at all viable as a tactical knife and one that can be gripped in that situation with any measure of confidence. The jimping on the top of the blade is there, but very weak. My thumb has nothing to hold on to in a tactical grip.Bottom Line: Go ahead and compare to some $60 to $80 knives and you will see that the EVO actually stacks up pretty well. It is a pretty lightweight package for its overall length and strength. The deployment and locking are great. I have been happy carrying it and will continue to carry.

Despite other comments regarding crappy metal and then, of course, suggesting another brand this is a decent pocket knife. I carry it every day. I use it to open boxes, packages and have even used it to cut up fruit and steak on occasion. At Christmas time as toys are being opened from the cardboard mazes that are zip-tied like prisoners in a zombie movie, I am constantly asked by family to use the knife. Rule number nine is always carry a knife. So the next year for Christmas I buy all the adults a pocket knife. The next Christmas they show up without it and again ask for my knife.Are you going to take out a terrorist cell with this knife, no. In fact if you brandished it in an alley knife fight you would be laughed at. That said for its purpose it is durable, dependable and can be sharpened when necessary. I keep a few extras in the package in a drawer in case I lose the one in my pocket.

I’ve bought four of these knives by now. Not that they break, I just loose my tools all the time. I use it for work, I needed a small knife with a partially serrated edge. This knife feels great in my hand, is small enough to fit in my pocket along with all my other tools, and comes decently sharp. May seem a little pricey, but it’s worth it. Just keep in mind it’s pretty small.
