does the job suprisingly well
I cannot manipulate metal core strings over the course of a rehearsal any longer, so I tried these and found them surprisingly responsive with a pleasant gut tone. I had to expand the E-string hole on the tailpiece as expected. Note: It took two weeks for the strings to settle in enough to keep a tuning for a reasonable length of time and they stretched enough that I had to reset the angle of the bridge - twice. I'll expect that next set and set a greater downward angle of the bridge at the start - plus not be afraid to trim a bit more at the peg box end to avoid some of the work.

Great Strings and a great price
I put on the 4 middle gauge ones like they recommended. Only had to make the tail piece slot for the .155 E a little bit wider. The bigger fat .170 will need the winding peg hole widened a bit if I use it in the future. I’m glad they give you a choice in the set with the 6 string set. Also love they’re made in USA. Would buy these again.

I'm not a huge bow player but will agree that the texture is very good for arco in the little that I do
I use these for pizz and slap and they definitely have that shorter attack, darker gut sound. The main thing to note is they are much softer on the hand and especially on the fingerboard which is important if you slap at all. I put some scoring on my fingerboard slapping with some metal ribbon wound strings and with these I both am kinder to the fingerboard and to my hands. I'm not a huge bow player but will agree that the texture is very good for arco in the little that I do.One thing about tuning an upright. Its very important to tension them slowly and especially if you play them like I do with the larger guage size, like guts. You should either use graphite to lubricate where they slide over the bridge or gently nudge the string over the bridge by pressing back with your thumb on the bridge. Otherwise its easy to pull your bridge toward the neck of the bass as you get up to tension, but this is true of all bass strings. Also because these are fairly soft and "rubbery" there is about a 4 or 5 day period while they stretch in when you first put them on. But thats true for real guts, as I understand, as well.

Really interesting strings
The media could not be loaded. I did a test of the two smallest gauge strings. Both tuned to g. I need to get some work done to use the e and a. I’ll probably go with the middle 4.But for slapping I can see using the small 4 and yet I could still bow them. With the smallest tuned d and g: I didn't lose too much volume and it’s normal pizz. Amazing product. And let me tell you I have tried a lot of strings.

I read all the reviews for different string companies and decided to try these because of the good reviews and the price
Just started playing upright again. I needed new strings to replace some steel strings that came on the bass when I bought it. I have a 1954 Kay. I use a K&K Rockabilly pickup system. The amps very from an Ampeg, to plugging directly into a PA system. I read all the reviews for different string companies and decided to try these because of the good reviews and the price. I am very happy with them so far. I do need to replace the thick "E" string with a thinner gauge. And I need to replace the "D" string to a thinner gauge. And it's easy to do because of the extra strings that come with this set. Overall, they are easy to slap with. They sound pretty good when amplified. It was well worth the money to get me started back into playing. My fingers are holding up pretty well too! Other band mates have complimented on how much they like the sound of the bass. Thanks!

These are great strings, I have been using them for about ...
These are great strings, I have been using them for about 6 months. I use the 170, 155, 105, 80 which I found had the most uniform tension across the strings. They have a softer attack which is more muted compared to other types of strings. I read alot of reviews and I was unsure if the E and A would be strong and loud enough with the rest of the set. I found that the A was perfect but the E was just a little weak on volume and sustain, but the notes on the E String are still clear and pronounced and the volume / sustain was not a problem for me. This was my experience with my Engelhardt 3/4 bass.

really activates the top
Superb sound and tension on the g .80 and the d .105... I was really unhappy with rotosound rs4000's g string it had a wine and twang to it that was unacceptable at least on my cheap plywood bass... maybe the rosewood fingerboard wasn't perfectly true on my bass... the extra pull on the bridge via tension really activates the top of the bass making the e a d & g all louder... I have kept the rs4000 e and a for now but maybe when the g & d finish stretching I might try the "a" maybe even the "e"... I'm extremely happy even if I end up using only two of the strings. Rotosound should be taking notes these beat their g and d any day... the texture makes it easy to grab when drag triplet playing... the texture feels a little ruff to my left hand which is good... feels like dry gut... great strings.... very happy
