The bad reviews saying it's too hard are pretty old... New reviews say it works great. So have they changed the product? Is it easier to squeeze now?

We purchased two -- one in the beginning of 2009 and one in middle/end of 2011 (one for each kid). Both were hard to use, but we found that running it under hot water right before using it really made it soft and then absolutely no problem to use. If we had another kid, I'd definitely get it again.

can you use this to clean your ears from ear wax? I have ear drops I just need something to clear out the wax

I never tried it, but after the tip, it is gets rather large. For babies, this was the best aspirator by far because it had good suction. I have never had ear wax so, I cannot speak to that.
