A Watercolor Artists Dream Come True - Daniel Smith's Jean Haines Master Artist Set!
I've recently had the pleasure of diving into the world of watercolor painting, and let me tell you, the DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Jean Haines Master Artist Set is an absolute game-changer. This set of 10 watercolor tubes has left me completely awestruck, and I couldn't wait to share my thoughts!First and foremost, the smoothness of these watercolors is truly remarkable. As an artist, I crave paints that glide effortlessly across the paper, and these do just that. The consistency of the paint is perfect, allowing for precise control and flawless strokes. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner like me, you'll appreciate the ease with which you can work with these colors. One of the standout features of this set is the excellent coverage it provides. With just a small amount of paint, I was able to achieve vibrant and consistent results. The pigments are incredibly saturated, and they deliver outstanding coverage with each brushstroke. It's as if each color has a story to tell, and it does so with elegance and grace.Speaking of colors, the hues in this set are nothing short of spectacular. They are rich, deep, and incredibly satisfying to work with. Each tube is a treasure trove of possibilities, and I find myself constantly inspired by the range of shades available. Whether I'm creating a delicate wash or a bold, expressive piece, these watercolors never disappoint. One of the things I truly appreciate is how easy it is to layer these watercolors. They blend seamlessly, allowing for smooth transitions between colors and the creation of captivating gradients. The versatility of this set is a testament to the thought and care that went into its formulation.I have to admit that I am already a fan of the DANIEL SMITH brand, but this Jean Haines Master Artist Set takes my admiration to new heights. The quality and craftsmanship of these watercolors are top-notch, and they consistently deliver exceptional results. If you're on the hunt for watercolors that inspire creativity and elevate your artwork, this set is an absolute must-have.In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Jean Haines Master Artist Set. The smoothness, excellent coverage, beautiful hues, and ease of layering make it a dream for artists of all levels. These paints have added a new dimension to my creative journey, and I'm sure they will do the same for you. Worth It!
Pricey but excellent quality paints ! Colors are beautiful and blends well and a very small amount goes a long way. Using the pan watercolor cubes can get messy so even though tubes are more expensive it allows you to pick up paint cleanly. Love this brand

Unique colors that make great florals or landscapes
Ten colors from Daniel Smith that make great florals or landscapes (or abstracts, you decide.) The colors include several that are unique to Daniel Smith such as "Moonglow" a darkened bluish violet, and Lunar Blue, a granulating dark blue that tends to green; the paint has (if I recall) magnetic particles that cause the paint to granulate or form clumps that give an attractive textured effect. Aussie Red Gold is another that is exclusive to Daniel Smith; it's a quinacridone red plus two other pigments (PY83-Diarylide Yellow 83, PR101 Mars Orange) Normally I don't like to use mixed pigment paints but this color is really beautiful, an almost gold orange. Rounding out the unique colors, Cascade Green, which is burnt umber and Phthalo blue, Undersea Green, another triple pigment ultramarine, nickel azo yellow and quinacridone gold. And finally Green Apatite Genuine, a Primatek color from ground minerals. It's a granulating olive green from rocks. The other colors are found in other color lines, like Nickel Azo Yellow, a replacement for Aureolin or Cadmium Lemon, almost ochre in masstone but washes out to a beauutiful lemony yellow, Imperial Purple which is ultramarine and quin violet, convenience mix, and quinacridone magenta and "Opera" a bright bubble gum pink. The colors are somewhat unique though a lot of them are mixes and have three pigments (which is not idea, because if you mix in more colors, you can get a dull effect when the absorbance spectra do not match up well) You can make some interesting mixtures nevertheless, and the greens are good--most tube greens are pretty awful and not able to be used unmixed in landscapes as they are unnatural looking. The only color I don't like in here is Imperial Purple. It's a pretty pure grape color but it shows chromatographic separation on hot press paper (you can see the ultramarine and the quinacridone separating.) Carbazole Violet is almost identical and a single pigment. If you threw in a cerulean blue type paint, you could go anywhere with this set and do landscapes. Add a yellow and a pure red and you have a floral palette.I swatched these out on hot press paper (smooth surface.) I normally use cold press (toothed surface) but I wanted to see them at their worst. Hot press is more challenging. There is a lot of granulation and if you enjoy that texture, you'll love this set.

DS trial size master collections
DS trial size master collections are a great way to try out interesting series of paints curated by watercolor artists. Tubes the size of my pinky finger are enough paint to trial & enjoy finding new favorites. Or even staple colors. Without committing to a full tube initially. I’d purchase it again and recommend them to a friend. A great birthday gift with the book A Field Guide To Color. I also got their split primary set to make my first set of their paints in a tin. So exciting to try professional paints. Prior to this I used WNC and prior to that I used the premade half pan sets which I still very much enjoy. The joy of more expensive paints is seeing how the pigment blooms and makes interesting textures. A good paper really makes paints come to live don’t go cheaper than strathmore. arteza is too flimsy and warps. A good brush will hold more water at a time and make the colors behave differently. Definitely keep an eye out for a round more fluffy not stiff brush.

Daniel Smith watercolors are beautiful
Daniel Smith watercolors are my choice for almost all of my colors. I have never been disappointed but once and It was my fault. I bought a pink tube that faded with age. Now I’m careful to read the fine print before selecting solely on color. It matters to me if a color fades.
