None of the dvd's/cd's i bought seem to fit, is this a problem on my end? or did i order something wrong

I have the exact same problem. None of my CD's fit and I have CD's that are both new and old. The piece in the center of the player compartment that the CD hole is supposed to fit on to hold the CD in place is too big and not centered so CD's aren't able to be placed in the player. Returning the player today.

Is this compatible with catalina (mac os 10.15.1 on the 16" macbook pro)?

My Mac Book Pro 13 inch is running on Mojave vers 10.15.1 and it works well with it. Not sure if this helps.

can this be used with a Amazon Fire tablet?

If it has a USB port it should work. It also has another plug that looks like an AmazonBasics USB which is smaller.
