Classic Smoked Salmon and Seafood Lovers Gourmet Food Gift Basket

We ordered this because we wanted nicely presented salmon snacks in the house over the Christmas weekend, and thought we'd be saving ourselves time and trouble by ordering a prearranged package. What a mistake.We are native Pacific Northwest people who grew up knowing good salmon. Salmon filets, salmon steaks, baked salmon, grilled salmon, cedar-plank salmon, salmon jerky, smoked salmon, salmon mousse, salmon dip. From Copper River to Chum, we know what salmon can be, and what it should NOT be. The salmon in this gift pack is what salmon should not be.The spreads: although the ingredients of chipotle and dill were used, two lovely flavors when combined with seafood, it did nothing to help dispel the notion that we were eating spiced up cat food. We threw it away after a few bites.The smoked salmon in the small pouch did not 'flake' easily like well smoked salmon should, and was flavorless. Even the oil it was packed in was thin, almost watery, instead of the rich 'bursting with flavor' salmon oil that we know from living our entire lives in the PNW.The nicely presented (in a wood box with Native American motif) smoked salmon was a saltier version of the same thing, with an added layer of fish skin to provide a little more fat. The oil was just as watery, and other than the salt, was just as flavorless.The crackers are okay.That was all the $79 bought: Two types of smoked salmon pouches, two spreads, and a pouch of crackers. Only the crackers were inoffensive. Mighty expensive crackers.It is my opinion that products like this turn people away from seafood and salmon in particular. There are some REALLY good smoked, canned, and otherwise packaged salmon products out there that will put a person into tastebud heaven. This, unfortunately, is not one of them.

This basket was published in a list of kosher baskets.After reading the ingredients I was quite confidant that it is Kosher soI bought this basket for my brother in law who keeps Kosher.two days later he calls me up to say that there were non-kosher ingredients in the basket.Totally ruined the purpose of the gift basket...too bad - I should have sent him a grocery basket from the grocery store instead.Karen

The gift was received by the recipient today and deemed inedible. The picture says it all.

got this as a birthday gift for my friend who travels a lot (grandchildren in Atlanta and Los Angeles). Because it requires no refrigeration it could be kept for her return home. She came in on the red eye and left me an email to say how much she liked it. I think she thought it was more extravagant than it is.

I sent this as a Mother's Day gift to my mother, who loves salmon. It was well packaged, well received and, I was told, delicious.
