Fun Compilation of the Long-Running Strip
While Andy Capp is probably best known in the USA as just a fellow who has a line of snacks named after him, he is actually the star of an English comic strip that sometimes feels as if it's been around forever. At the time of publication of this book, Andy had "only" been around for 50 years, hence the title. This is a compilation of strips from the earliest days to around 2008. While there's an attempt to represent each decade of Andy's long-running career, the lion's share of the strips reproduced here are in color and therefore since the late 1990s. Have no fear, however. Andy Capp and his world are more or less intact from the late 1960s onwards, and that includes his humor. This is timeless spousal battle-of-the-sexes stuff, which is why most of it translates so well beyond the confines of the UK. But make no mistake about it - dig a little deeper and you'll easily see that the comic strip is as English as kippers and scones.Mind you, this is -only- a compilation of strips and not any attempt at a serious retrospective of the behind the scenes trials and tribulations of maintaining a comic strip well beyond the death of its original creator. The controversy regarding the decision for Andy to lose his ubiquitous cigarette in the 1990s is nowhere to be found, for example. I don't mind this at all, since I bought the book primarily for some good belly laughs. But some of you might have been expecting something else. The book could have been longer, but I also believe that less is more and brevity is the soul of wit, so I am not complaining. I'd rather have a shorter book and feel like I've gotten my money's worth than to have a book the size of a phone directory and never get around to finishing it.Humor is an odd thing. What one person finds funny, another may find dull or even offensive. But I find Andy Capp to be one of the funniest and most human comic strips around. It definitely makes me laugh more often than not.So, raise your pint at the pub to that cheeky scoundrel Andy Capp!

Great find.
I bought this as an additional Christmas gift for my husband, and he and I both have read and reread it. It's the perfect gift for anyone who remembers Andy Capp and Florrie.

Good Anthology
Well worth the purchase. This is a good review of Andy Capp though I could wish for a few more of his earlier cartoons. He isn't portrayed as such a hooligan as he was when he first arrived on the scene. Still, a good anthology with a good overview of the character and his life.

Sometimes Andy is the source of the jokes, & sometimes the jokes are directed at him.
I've been a fan of the characters for years. I enjoyed all the strips. Especially the one about the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse.

Andy Capp at it again.
I bought both these books for my husband for Christmas as he does like Andy Capp. In fact I like him too but have not got around to reading them yet. Andy Capp is so lazy and I feel so sorry for Flo, what does she have to put up with, poor girl.Anyone that is an Andy Capp fan should buy these products.

Amazing book
I got this for my grandad as a Christmas present. His whole face lit up seeing the early ones and I’ve never seen him laugh so much. Amazing book.
