You'll know you needed it when you have it.
Had no idea I needed this until I started using this. The third hand is super versatile with the adjustable table clamp. It fits nicely in my traveling sewing kit. Whenever you need a third hand it sets up quickly, the clamp holds firm, and your done with your hand stitched project in a breeze. I used to pin the work to my pants/shirt and ended up stretching out the holes in my work/clothes pretty quickly. This is a great hand stitching tool for anyone invested in the craft..

Where have you been all my life, gorgeous??
This thing is the best little gadget EVER! I attached the thingamabob to the top drawer of my sewing table and there it lives, handy whenever I need it. The simplicity and effectiveness of the doo dad is commendable. The harder you pull, the firmer the grip on the fabric yet it releases instantly just by squeezing the sides. Brilliant!! So if you need that extra bit of tension, ESPECIALLY for opening seams with a razor, this glorious whosiewhatsit has you covered.Probably also good for beading, braiding, friendship bracelets, or anything that you want to keep tension on while working.NOTE: I did need to bend the curved pieces out just slightly in order for the mechanism to work properly. Not enough of a hassle to even deduct a star for but it does hinder the action at the outset and might make you think it doesn't work--believe me, it does! Go get you one!

Awesome tool!
I have seen historic sewing 'birds' which have a clamp and a little 'beak' on them to provide a 'third' hand when trying to sew by hand, especially long seams as they allow you to maintain a constant tension on the fabric. I regretted that they did not exist today - but I was wrong! While the 'bird' shape is missing, this device does exactly the same thing! I LOVE IT! It screws onto a sewing table or similar surface and then it clips onto the edge of my fabric holding it secure so I can keep a good tension on it while I sew my historic reproduction costumes. So, thank you - and I highly recommend this clever little clamp. I am so glad I found it, especially for such a reasonable price!

Useful tool
There is a good tight grip from this extra hand. The bracket opens 1.5" for attaching to a table that thickness or less with a rubbery type pad to give it grip factor. The "hand" holds tightly with rubber? pads between the jaws. It takes plenty of hand pressure to open the jaws adding to the grip factor of the jaws. As can be seen in the photo I supplied, the jaw grips are held on with metal tabs. New, the grips don't catch on delicate fabric because the tabs are tight into the rubber pad, but this is something to keep an eye on.The string between the two pieces is the weak link but any string can be used.I notice the model I received is different from the photo in the Amazon item description. I added a photo of the model I received as well as the packaging as it arrived.

Seems perfect!
Smaller than I expected, but it should work well. After clamping onto my table, it held my lightweight fabric very securely. I put a little carabiner on it to keep my cord from interfering while clamping & unclamping, & that worked great. Might have to put a longer cord on it, but that’s not a big deal. I really like this little item!
