Great device
Works amazing for my buffer tank supplying water to 2 pressure washers and a 12 volt soft wash pump. I modified my device by drilling some bigger holes through the screen to increase the flow when I was at one customers house. Great product. By the way, I do have a filter before the float valve.

Works for pool, mostly
I use this for my swimming pool. Two times the pool has overfilled due to this not working to stop water flow. I suspect some floaters got caught in the mechanism. Beware ...don't leave home overnight while using in this way. I recommend checking for stuck debris regularly.

Highest quality
Hudson is the original design for this valve. I ordered a competitor brand just because of overnight delivery. I will never do that again. The Hudson brand works the first time, every time. The competitor brand would never shut off the water when the trough was full.

Float works great! Even works well in a very small trough.
This float is very sturdy, especially on 1" pipe, which

Waste of $$. Difficult installation--expensive connector.
I cannot figure out why others say these are wonderful valves. I've bought 3 and simply wasted my $$ on them. I've put them in stock tanks and unless you have a steel pipe set up that is PERFECTLY VERTICAL they all free-flow. Yes, even when the water completely covers the valve, if it is not completely vertical, it will run and run. Hope you enjoy that water bill. Now, for cost--at about $30 each, they are pricey, but I decided to try it after a couple of float valve failures. But then, another $30 for the installation kit that you can actually hook a hose to?!?!?!? Why have a 1" ips fitting on the top, instead of just making it garden hose friendly. WORST purchase ever!! I now changed to the small stainless steel valves (also sold on Amazon) and they work great. They don't hook directly to a garden hose either, but a brass connector is only about $4. And, they can hang down and will shut off appropriately, even when not exactly vertical. Get a hint Hudson, all ranches are not perfectly at right angles and don't have specialty plumbing!

Solid
I have yet to use item, but it is solid. I think it could survive a truck running over it. I was impressed. I will keep the 5 star rating until I set it up and use it. If it fails to live up to it's potential I will change it's rating. I will comment good or bad later. Just be careful to not lose the small filter that sits loose on top of the valve cap. I almost did. It was apparently worth spending a bit more to get a better product.
