Works really well on mixed hair
This styling milk works wonderfully on my biracial kids' hair! I'm the white parent with no prior experience with curly hair, so I'm constantly experimenting and learning how to care for their hair. I've tried a whole bunch of products and combinations thereof, with varied results. This is by far one of my most successful finds! I'm attaching a couple of photos so you can see what it looks like. The pictures are of my daughter, who is 3 years old, black/white biracial with fine, silky 3b hair. Note: this styling milk isn't the only thing in her hair, so I can't give it full credit for this look, but it is providing most of the definition and hold. Here's a description of how I use it. I wash her hair once a week, and follow with Ouidad Krly Kids No More Knots leave-in conditioner. I tie it up in a protective hairstyle (banded ponytail) and she goes to bed. The next morning, I define her curls with the Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk, shaping each curl with it around my finger (yeah... it's a lot of work, but I only do it once a week). After her hair dries, it's nice and shiny with beautiful soft curls. I tie it back in a banded ponytail for naps and bedtime, to protect the curls. At the end of each day, and especially by morning, there's some frizz from her just rolling around playing or sleeping, but that's inevitable. Each morning, I touch up the curls that have frizzed, again with the Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk. Just a little bit with a spray of water. That way she can get through the week looking gorgeous, with minimal daily upkeep. This styling milk provides the best balance of hold, moisture and softness, without feeling greasy or crunchy. In the photos, day 2 and day 4 are the days after hair wash day. On day 4 you can already see a bit of frizz on top, but that was in the evening, after a full day of wear. For a rambunctious 3-year-old, I'd say the curls are holding up quite well! There's only one thing I don't like about this milk - the design of the bottle. The milk isn't really a milk - more like butter! It's thick and can't flow very well. You have to keep the bottle upside down, otherwise it requires a lot of hard squeezing. I wish the cap was wider and more stable so you could store the bottle upside down. Inconvenient, but not enough to drop a star. Otherwise, the product is awesome!UPDATE: It's been several years now that I've been using this product and I still LOVE it! It's the best I've found so far for defining my kids' curls and maintaining that definition throughout the week. It really does last all week, with minor daily touch-ups. My kids are 5 and 3 now and still get a lot of compliments on their curls! The younger one's hair is tighter - closer to a 4, and now that he has some more length to it, the coils hold together all week and he only needs a touch up towards day 4 or 5, and only around his temples. The rest holds up great! I'm including a couple more photos for reference. I can't praise this product highly enough!

Great product!
I have been following the curly girl method on my hair for about 2 months now. Because I no longer brush my hair (part of the curly girl method) I have been experiencing severe frizziness and I have also experienced an unrelated dryness. I thought I would forever have to deal with those side effects. I used this product in the shower today at the very end, after rinsing my conditioner out, while my hair was still sopping wet. I then scrunched my hair with my hands and a microfiber cloth several times and let it air dry for a few hours. This is the result at about 90% dry. I would highly recommend applying this product while your hair is completely 100% wet in the shower and not waiting a second longer, because I tried applying this when my hair was beginning to slightly dry (still dripping wet) and this product did NOT go into my hair at all and just sat at the top, I had to wash it all out. I would also recommend scrunching your hair with your hands after applying it in the shower to fully get the product into your strands and to build your curls, because this cream is very thick. Next shower I will use more of the cream than I did this time because I barely used any! Great light scent, not perfumy at all and I can barely smell it in my hair. Great simple ingredients, no alcohols or sulfates or anything that could dry your hair out. PLEASE give this product a shot, this is coming from a very picky person!

I've tried others, and this one gets a ring on it.
On an average, humid day in the American Southwest, my hair falls under the indecisive "Wavy 2B" category - not quite straight and not quite curly. (For reference, check out: https://www.curls.biz/curly-hair-type-guide.html). I have used hair cream gel, smoothing milk, and mousse (not all at once, obviously) in an attempt to NOT look like a haggard ol' witch at the office. While I liked the ease with which you could apply Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpt Conditioning Cream Gel, Curly Hair, 5.1 fl. oz., it doesn't quite tame the frizz. It also leaves a slippery film that, sometimes, I have to shampoo twice just to get rid of it. But, we still buy the dang thing because my husband's hair is picky like that.I have also tried Garnier Fructis Style Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk, All Hair Types, 5.1 oz. (Packaging May Vary). While it controlled the frizz, it also weighed my hair down to between a "Wavy 2A" and a "Wavy-Wannabe" that I might as well have straightened my hair on those days.Hair mousse is light and airy, and if I had to choose a favorite, it would be TRESemme Flawless X-Hold Curl Care Mousse, 3 Count. However, the mousse gave my hair this perpetual wet look and a stiff crunch to the touch, as if someone had thrown a meringue pie on my head and it stayed there overnight to dry. It was also a pain-in-the-neck to tie my hair into a bun at the end of the day (due to aforementioned crunchy baked good situation). But, somehow, I managed. Then one day my sister told me about Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk 8 Ounce (235ml) (2 Pack). Her hair falls more between the seductive "Wavy 2C" and the perky "Curly 3A" types (alas, not all of us are blessed with pretty genes). At first I was taken aback by the lotion-like consistency. What?! Am I supposed to put lotion on my hair?? Anyway, I tried it, and immediately fell in love after the first day. It smells lovely and lingers only in a subtle way; although I wouldn't recommend standing under the heat of the sun all day on account of the coconut scent. Trust me.-1 star penalty because of the price and the rigid plastic container. You need to shake this thing vigorously, and squeeze like you're birthing a cow for enough product to come out, especially once you get beyond the halfway point. It would work better if contained in a squeezable lotion tube like this one: Aveeno Positively Nourishing Lavender And Chamomile Calming Body Lotion, 7 Fl. Oz. Overall, it's a great hair product and I would highly recommend you give it a try.
