The Lord God Made Them All

James Herriot has done it again. I have a great respect for James and his ability to recognize and describe the unique characters that he encountered in his life as a country vet. He had a knack for appreciating the small, almost insignificant details that make a person truly memorable: a loud laugh, a silly hobby, an intense stubbornness. I fervently enjoy seeing the world through his eyes.

James Herriot is just the best writer! My favorite series of books.

What can I say in few words about James Herriot books? Superb phrasing, character building, excellent vocabulary( I learn new words in many chapters) humor and lightness with enough serious content because it’s real life. Best of all, entertaining! He makes me smile!

This is a great book series! Highly recommend.

The story is great and up lifting, theres always a morale to the story.James (not his real name) is the sort of guy who's not afraid to talk about his failings, or uncertainty about what to do next in his personal and professional. The tabby cat was sad, having witnessed a tragedy with a cat and cruelty. Than goodness, now days there are laws protecting animals.As I read the series, am learning a lot about the treatment of animals, and James tells stories that are both funny, and sad about both people and animals.

A welcome reprieve from a hard day at work! An absolute delight!

I read this series as a teenager and loved them. I highly recommend them even though there is some coarse language, cases about animal husbandry that can be graphic, and pubs and drinking are the norm in that area. This makes me hesitant to get them for our grandchildren. It is not explicit or in bad taste, just down to earth, real life. I would give them 10 stars if that were available. They are a treasure, hilarious, such amazing people and unforgettable stories. I have read them all several times. Hardly any books are good enough to say that about!

I love James Herriott’s style of writing- he will make you laugh, cry & think. I will cherish each of these books.

If you loved All Creatures Great and Small - both the book and the TV show, or either one - this is for you. It's the continuing story of Herriott's life as a country vet, this time in the years immediately following WWII. He has an easy, relaxed, highly entertaining writing style which seems effortless, and is a joy to read. His explanations of veterinary practice are informative, without being either over-complex for the lay reader, or patronising. I have just now bought another book from the series, and will no doubt be getting others. But an important point to note is that each one stands alone - you don't need to have read the others, to enjoy it.Worth every penny - highly recommended!

Las aventuras, contadas cada una en un capítulo, pero con un hilo conductor, del trabajo del autor como veterinario en una región rural de Yorkshire son una auténtica delicia, entretenidas, adictivas y fáciles de leer, siempre con una sonrisa, aunque a veces sea agridulce.

James Herriott is a well-known name to British animal-lovers. His story-telling brings his experinces as a rural vet in the mid '90s vividly to life. His books are packed with compassion for animals and their owners, whether they're pet-owners or stock-farmers. Once you've read one you'll want to read the whole series !

Da ich bisher nur die deutschen Übersetzungen von Herriot kannte, war ich sehr neugierig auf die englischsprachige Originalausgabe und muss sagen: ich bin begeistert!Leider konzentriert sich die deutsche Übersetzung nur auf die reinen Tiergeschichten, während Herriot doch in seinem Leben so viel mehr erlebt hat!Das Buch liest sich flüssig und spannend und ist aus meiner Sicht zu recht ein Klassiker in England.
