I’m using this hatband with a Sunday Afternoons Montana hat, which is a great hat for the money. The hat holds its shape well and the felt is thick and high quality. However, the stock hatband is brown faux leather. It’s fine because it’s neutral and keeps costs down, but I wanted something that pops a little more and this hatband satisfies on all counts. The adjustability means you can fine tune the hat to sit a little bit lower or higher on your head, or snug the fit up just a bit when it’s windy. The contrast of colors looks great too. It’s definitely a braided plastic instead of real horsehair at this price, but that’s fine and makes it more weather resistant. An excellent upgrade that completes an otherwise excellent hat!

I recently ordered a crushable wool felt and water Repellent Fedora. It looks nice with one fault. The issue is the fit and the non adjustable hat band. I normally wear a size 7 3/8. This is my hat size and all my helmets are this size. This hat fits loose on me. The Leather drawstring hat band is not adjustable. There is a tape that could be placed inside the hat under the sweat band if needed. However, even with it placed, the hat still feels a little loose.I was debating if I should wet the hat and permanently shrink it. I was hesitant to do so as I have no experience in doing it. So, I opt to get an adjustable hat band and see if I could tighten the hat. I bought this adjustable Gamboa Cowboy Hat Band. I removed that sewed on leather hat band and slipped on the new one. I am happy to report that worked. The hat now fits perfect without the use of that spacer (tape). Now, it is just tight enough that it would not move around when I shake my head and it is not too tight that it would give me a headache.This Hat Band adjusts easily and seems able to stay locked in the desire length. It looks better than the original hat band. I am glad that I choose this method to tighten the hat and made it fit. Years ago, there is no such things as these form tapes and spacers and yet people were able to size their hats. The reason is HAT BANDS! This is what is needed. This is a much better solution and as far as I am concerned it is more elegant.

Simple and understated is just what my wife was going for when she purchased two of these. The red, white and black one looks great on my brown leather fedora. And the blue and black stands out on my white straw summer cowboy. Both hide the seam without overpowering the hat. The description was a little vague, so I'll elaborate. Both bands I have are about 3/8" wide and 3/16" thick. They smell like real horsehair although the feel stabilized with a plastic not unlike the coating on some straw hats. The bands are flexible to a point but not floppy. The tensioners are also woven and are tight enough not to slip. Although I'll probably employ a little glue the next time I open a tube. All in all, 👍👍.

The hat band looks nice, but be aware it does not fit extended hat sizes. My husband wears 7-7/8 and it does not fit. Also, you will want to minimize readjusting the band. I was very careful when extending it to try to fit it to my husbands hat and still it was beginning to look frayed. Some folks like the “weather worn” type looks for their cowboy hats but it’s just something to be aware of. The band does look exactly like the photo.

This hat band is nicely woven and adjusts to fit the hat in a clean, handsome manner with no pieces dangling. My hat is a size small 6 7/8, but there is ample braid to go around a larger hat size. The feel of the braid is stiff and the weave is tight. It measures 3/8" tall. The black and 'dirty' white braids look fabulous on my black hat. Glad the white actually isn't a bright white. The description says it's made of horse hair and Iam not able to tell. Iam definitely impressed and pleased with the appearance. Worth the price in my view.
