Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ, Proportional Brake Controller for Trailers with 1-3 Axles

Just bought a travel trailer and needed a brake controller. Would’ve preferred OEM but my bank account said no. This one was recommended and a decent price. Installation was fairly easy. Instructions for setting it seemed clear. The guy at the dealer helping us hook everything up told us what they’re usually set on and how to adjust it if needed, so we didn’t go through the test drive like the instructions had said. Father-in-law drove it home and said it felt like it was set right. No problems with it so far!

These brake controllers hit the sweet spot of price and performance. All the more expensive controllers give you are generally pointless options (multiple trailers, 360 mounting, fancy screen, etc). Even people like me with multiple trailers and vehicles will probably NEVER use any of these extra features. In the end, they just waste your money and make the brake controller more complicated to use.This controller functions exactly as one should. With no trailer, you don't even notice it's there. The display isn't intrusive, and completely shuts off aside from a small, dim light to let you know it still works.With a trailer, it just works. The controls are simple, the boost functions are easy to use and understand, and the adjustability is straightforward. Installation is as easy as any other brake controller, and at 70 degrees you'd be hard pressed to find a spot it won't work in. Braking action is smooth and consistent, and the manual override works as it should. The display tells you whether it's connected, and how much power it's feeding to the brakes, and that's about it. Fantastically simple and effective.Long story short, I already installed 3 of them in 3 separate vehicles, and we just purchased an '03 Explorer that will be the fourth. We use this mainly for a 3 horse slant.

Had one in my 2006 Ram 2500 so got another for my 2003 Ford F350. Works great on both hauling the16 foot car trailer loaded with a car or 5000lbs of hay or hauling a 4 horse trailer. Installed easily in both trucks and the boost allows easy adjustment between empty and loaded trailers.

Works well as far as I can tell for trailer braking. My only issue was when trying to mount it. It comes with two mounts. One is a snap-in type of bracket that works fine, but I wanted to use the more traditional bracket that gives you the ability to adjust the angle. That bracket requires holes in the controller itself, which aren't pre tapped. Holding the controller with one hand and trying to hand screw tiny self-tapping screws through plastic with the other hand isn't easy. You obviously don't want to drill a pilot hole into the controller, and I didn't want to put it in a vise to hold it steady. So, needing the controller that day, I ditched the mount I wanted to use and went with the snap mount. I attached a picture of the side of the controller and the divots for the holes that aren't there.

Originally ordered from another website but they couldn’t get it to me for 2 months. I wasn’t waiting that long so I paid the $8 more and had it next day. Towed my skid steer trailer without any issues. This is a very popular model and now I see why. Easy install and doesn’t have all the extra bells and whistles.

I'm rebuilding a 6x10 dump trailor and and it was a real project. These parts I ordered are a important part for getting the trailor on the road safely. So far everything is going well and I will get the trailer inspection soon. I'm vary satisfied with the quick delivery and quality of the parts I ordered.

Bought this to replace a malfuncting controller. Easy to install, and I like how it works. I mounted it in a cubby hole in the dash, without brackets only a friction fit.

I added this to my Ford Flex and works great. Ready for my trip south this winter towing my travel trailer.

Controller works flawlessly the way it was intended. It is very versatile with the options to choose from based on weight and amount of axles on trailer. I own a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd and Paired with: Tekonsha 3015-P Brake Control Wiring Adapter for GM. The harness made the install a breeze and made no need for splicing wires. Was quoted $350 in Calgary for this setup that costed half and took a whole 7 minutes to install and I had to supply zip ties to keep wires from the mentioned adapter out of the way. All in all works for me and keeps my trailers braking safely at a reasonable cost.

Installation was simple, plug and play with the correct adapter cable. Setup and operation is easy. The trailer brakes smoothly with none of the lurching I experienced towing a trailer with surge brakes. Minor complaint that the module still applies a varying voltage when the truck and trailer are fully stopped and the brakes are applied.
