Seymour Duncan Black P-Rails Humbucker Set - Electric Guitar Pickup, Versatile Humbucker, Strat, and P90 Tone

I installed these in a Schecter C1-EA that had stock "Duncan Designed" humbuckers. Even though I had put in a push-pull pot to split them, they we just lackluster. Not a clear tone to be found anywhere. Well - these are simply amazing. First, I installed the bridge pickup upside down to put the rail pickup closest to the bridge (AFTER I took the picture; read that in a forum somewhere - I tried it both ways, and like this better. What you would like depends on you.). Second, I replaced both the tone & volume pots with push/pull pots so I could have every tone combination, but without altering the look of the guitar. GREAT results. First, just as humbuckers, these sound great. All the clarity of tone I've been looking for. The P-90's are a great mix of single coil bite and humbucker warmth. And the rails - if you dial the volume back a little - are a very nice sound that this guitar has NEVER had. It's not perfectly a Tele sound, but it's definitely single coil definition and bite and a little snap & twang. Tones are SO nice in every setting - I couldn't be happier. **wiring can be a little tricky - but there are good diagrams out at the Seymour Duncan website. Probably best for jazz, rock, country, blues, worship music. Not hot enough for metal - but that's not what a C1-EA is built for anyway. These are the PERFECT pickups for my guitar.

Set up: replacing two Humbuckers in a T-style guitar (3-way switch, 1 vol, 1 tone, DPDT mini toggle).Guitar previously had two HOT Schecter apocalypse Humbuckers with a garbage coil-split yielding 6 voices, 3 of which were actually usable. Now I have 9 voices ( Humbucker x3, single rail x3, and p90 x3). ALL the tones are viable. Most impressed with p90 tones and Humbucker tones—single rail tones are very good, but not vintage. While the apocalypse Humbuckers had very solid balanced tone, the new P-rails are awesome all around. Do your homework—make sure they work and have wiring diagrams for your guitar before you purchase. Now my guitar sounds incredible.

Beautiful, full rich sound when using both sets of coils. When using one or the other as single coil taps you get better highs and sharper tone, but they are different from each other. Like having 3 different pickups in one.

Excellent product from Seymour Duncan. I installed these on a late 90's Epiphone Les Paul and these work extremely well.

This is partly my fault (due to inexperience) but the description really isn't clear either -- the bridge pickup is the standard-spaced version. This refers to the string spacing, not the fit into the body of the guitar. So this set is wrong for many guitars such as newer Epiphones or any other guitars that have an F-spaced bridge or tremolo. I have a new Epiphone LP Standard and the problem is that (I only realized after installing) that the bridge pickups do not line up with the strings and the high E string is almost completely outside. The goal with pickups is to have them line up with each string -- otherwise it looks very bad, and arguably performs worse.If you don't believe me, you can see the recommendation from pickup-maker DiMarzio who says "many guitars with fixed bridges (including post-1998 Gibson® and Epiphone® Les Paul®, SG® and semi-hollow guitars) should have F-spaced pickups in the bridge position. Most tremolo equipped guitars that have a nut width of 1-11/16” (43mm) or more should also use an F-spaced pickup in the neck position."Probably more experienced guitar folk already knew this issue, but there is nothing in the description of this set that makes this clear. It does mention "standard sized" but that is in reference to being a "drop in" (which I assumed meant it fits in the standard-sized slot).Normally I would blame myself for being uneducated, but there wasn't anything in the listing that even prompted the question "is it the right spacing".Plus Seymour Duncan wouldn't suffer by advising the buyer properly since they do sell the right one. So I have to buy another one for $99 bucks so am giving 3 stars.But the main thing is I want to help others avoid this -- please check the spacing of your strings at the bridge! If they are F-spaced (and most new Gibson and Epiphone LPs probably are) then don't buy this set. Instead buy them separately. The standard P-Rails which you should get for the neck are "SHPR" and the F-spaced ones which you get for the bridge are "TBPR" series.

I was worried when they arrived. They were advertised and sold as brand new, but the packaging was clearly opened before and the plastic case was smashed. Not good. Should have been discounted in that condition.However, I have used these pickups before, and they are the most versatile pickups made. They are the only pickups I’ve ever seen that have P90s, single coil, and humbuckers all in one.And if you paint them up with the Seymour Duncan triple shot frames, you can individually set each pick up in any combination you can think of, giving you dozens of tone combinations.Just wish the seller would have been up front about the smashed packaging and not new condition that they advertised.

I have an old Onyx 355 copy, which had a great action, but the pickups used to 'feed back'.I decided to get a new set fitted, and WHAT a difference! The sounds are sensational, I just love playing this now, even though I also have a Gibson Les Paul and a Gretsch Tennesseanl.I had push-pull pots fitted to give more switching options.These pickups are GREAT!

Everything with the SD name on it always turns out amazing and these pickups are no exception. They perform beautifully and coupled with the switch rings the tonal options are really awesome! Buy them.
