The pestle arrived broken but it was replaced with no fuss and really quickly! This is a heavy duty pestle and mortar and looks lovely in my kitchen :)

Needed to buy as a gift so I spent some time comparing and contrasting the numerous mortar and pestle sets on offer and finally chose this one as the size was right and it looked to be of good quality.Despite reading in the reviews that some pestles had arrived damaged I decided to order in the hope that these unfortunate incidents were in the minority and I would be lucky. I also wanted to avoid a 45 mile round trip to the nearest kitchen shop, as I live in a rural area.The order arrived promptly and I was a little apprehensive as I opened the lid of the box. The pestle was broken in two. Huge disappointment. No polystyrene covering over the pestle, it was just sitting in a polystyrene tray. Strangely, the polystyrene at the bottom of the tray was broken and pieces lying in the mortar. Such a pity as the mortar was great and just the right size.I was able through Amazon to return the set the same day and had a refund. Very impressed. So a 45 mile round trip it was and I was able to buy something similar for a few pounds more.I know that pestles are unpredictable and liable to breaking in use, but I would at least like the recipient of the gift to start with a whole one!

I'm someone with less teeth than I'd like, and I miss many foods, such as bombay mix, and posh crisps with dips, or nuts of any kind. After walking into nearly every chemist I know about, and being told that they don't sell that sort of thing here, when asked about the mortar and pestle, i took the plunge and simply bought the marble one because its sure to last!I paid a little more than I'd meant to, but oh, was this bad boy worth it! It's huge, weighs a ton, and it made short work of the quarter bag of bombay mix I'd been struggling with for hours. The powder was exquisite, and kept its flavour, with the stone being well sealed it took nothing away and washed out easily afterwards. Its a keeper!
