Perfect for chalk pastel work!

I really like the color of the paper first off. It gives a nice background to whatever you're working on. It can really make the colors pop. It's also fairly thick. I haven't had any issues layering with charcoal or color pencil (in photo). I think it's a good choice for low budget or beginners.

This is a review of the Canson Black Drawing Paper Sketchbook. So far I have tried two pads of the paper, about 80-90% of each pad. I have painted with watercolor (using local water from the tap), with sumi ink and with acrylic brushes. I have also used pencils, ballpoint pens, Micron pens, and even Sharpies.I believe that this is, by far, the best sketch paper/drawing paper available right now. I use it a lot.Pros:-Excellent surface, yet smooth enough to easilly pick up and move around.-Smooth and durable paper, excellent for broad lines.-No bleeding with most tools.-Bleeds between layers or when sliced with scissors.-Watercolor comes off with a bit of scrubbing, but is more easily removed when wiping it with a finger.-Drawing is bold and crisp, easy to read.-Can be cut into panels and sewn, even glued together.Cons:-Can't say I have any.Other:-Smells like real paper. Overall a great product.-Good for pencils, ballpoint pens, Micron, sumi, watercolor, acrylic. I have not tried this with markers, fine tipped pens, or Sharpies, yet, but I suspect that it works with their ink as well.-One can use tape on the surface without it leaving a residue or bleeding.

This is pretty big, which I like. I really enjoy the black pages. It is a bit tricky finding pens that show up on it.It has a nice, study feel to it. Good to draw on

Accepts most mediums well

I love this paper! This is the first black sketch pad I've ever bought so I don't have much to compare it to but with the white MARKART white charcole pencils and the MR. PEN white pen pack i bought along with it in extremely happy with my purchase! It is very thick, it reminds me of good construction paper and the charcole blends beautifully! I was a bit worried that my sketches wouldn't be as vibrant as they are on white paper. I was pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this paper, I shopped around before buying and this was a very good value for the size, quality and quantity. I will be buying it again for myself and my son!

Works well with my artist crayons.

Not all black paper is acid-free. As an artist who makes works on paper, quality acid-free papers are a requirement. With a last-minute opportunity to have a solo exhibit, I decided to mount my most recent works against black acid-fee paper before framing them. Thank you for delivering this tablet (of a size I couldn't even find in the nearest art stores), in pristine condition and in plenty of time for me to take advantage the opportunity.
