Insightful
The media could not be loaded. This book is for my 11 year old aspiring artist. After looking through the book together we found it was full of different tutorial style directions for recreating various anime characters. It has an area of focus on postures, faces, eyes, hair, etc. It offers plenty of variation in anime character styles, ages and shading styles. Overall this book is good buy, I believe an anime art enthusiast would get a lot out of it for sometime considering how dense it is.

11-year-old artist in the making
I bought this book for my artisticy inclined 11-year old daughter who has fallen in love with anime characters. I am a professional animator myself and this books reminds me of the things I learned while getting my fine arts degrees. I plan to go through it with her and help her understand how to create the characters' proportions and angles, and this book does a great job of introducing those concepts. The book's quality exceeded my expectations for a paperback book at the below $20 price range. It's pages are very high quality paper. The book cover is made of a high grade material that won't tare easily or quickly get bent or misshapen. The illustrations are large and clear and the steps to each are very clear and easy to follow. The colors are vibrant and exciting. There are loads of visuals and great images in this book. I love how it is broken into sections to explain how to make characters have different emotions, how to make lovable heroes or evil bruding villains. Or how to make clothing styles. And the images are large enough to trace with tracing paper so my daughter can begin to get a feel for the correct angles and proportions of the character's features.I am extremely pleased with this drawing guide and will be seeking out more guides from this author and publisher in the future.

Not for a beginner!!!!
Before you buy. Make sure you understand basic shapes and perspectives. The book is designed to show you how to use templates and build off them. It doesn't go into detail about mapping the faces, eyes, ears, etc. If you are a beginner look elsewhere. If you have decent drawing skills. Maybe what you need to get a better understanding of the skill. I do think it is a good book though. Good thoughts and tips.

Great for experienced and beginning artists alike!
My 14-year old's review: "This book is great! Christopher Hart has a great sense of humor, and I found myself laughing while looking through this book for the first time, and I like to have this book with me while drawing, as it's great for reference. I love the artwork, and the book is super helpful, especially for poses! The school uniforms for girls section has tons of different styles, and it really helps me to get better ideas while designing uniforms for my characters. If you're a beginner, I would really, highly recommend getting this book. It has so many different poses and shows you how to draw a simple base, and then add details. Christopher Hart explains each step really well, so that makes it really easy to follow. If you are already a seasoned artist, then get this book to expand your horizons of character designing. Whatever your case is... just get the book, you won't regret itπ!"
