Crocky
A small crocodile head now reposes in our 35-foot koi pond, drifting several feet upstream from a fake blue heron. Neither is facing the other. The croc's head is placed so that its body seems to be hidden under lily pads. To me, 'cept for the red eyes (which may be effective--who knows?) it's a pretty realistic-looking imitation. It's lightweight and probably easily damaged, but floating there in the pond looks safe enough from harm.Even if it was a tad pricy, I've come to like it. Since putting it into the water three weeks ago, my wife and I haven't seen a blue heron or egret land near the pond--though we have seen them flying overhead. Admittedly, it's a bit early to judge, but I'm inferring (or at least hoping!) that at least for now, either the croc or the heron (which is far less realistic)--or both together--may just be the cause of the predator birds' staying away. Oh, I do move the croc & heron occasionally. We should gain more certainty about their effectiveness after a few months. Meanwhile, we're all keeping our fins crossed! Pax, fishies. . .

It actually works!
We had a problem with ducks in our pool and tried this. Really does keep them out! Super easy fix.

it was like the alligator wasn't there at all
First, let me start by saying that the buying process, shipping and all logistics were all worth 4 or 5 stars. The buying process was very positive. The alligator head was exactly as advertised and looks very life-like floating in my pond. So in that light the product is also worth 4/5 stars. The big but in this case is that it didn't fool the geese at all. At first, I thought it was magic and I was a genius for trying it. I put it in the pond and didn't see a single goose for the next six days. But when they came back, it was like the alligator wasn't there at all. They swim right past it and have even flipped it over by jumping into the water near it on one occasion. Maybe it's because I live in NY and alligators are not native, but I can't give it anymore than three stars because it didn't work for me.

Scared the neighbors - not the Heron
Coming out of this winter I had 26 fish in our little garden pond... until this villainous bird dropped by for lunch. With only 11 fish remaining, I picked up this alligator head. It's an incredibly detailed head! Apparently each one is hand painted, so no two heads are alike! It gave my wife a scare coming out of the box and certainly caught our next door neighbor's attention. Unfortunately, the heron returned to gobble up all but 3 of our last remaining fish (thus the 4-star rating as it's apparently more frightening to the neighbors than the bird), but I still enjoy looking at this alligator head. It's really cool to have floating around in the pond, and it's so detailed that I might just have to give it a name...If only it could actually eat that darned bird!

Love this for keeping ducks out of my pool!
I bought this for my parents because they have a lot of trouble keeping ducks out of their pool. They have even had baby ducks born in the pool before and it left a HUGE mess to clean up. We had one of these that was similar years ago but have had a hard time tracking down another one after it broke. This one is very realistic and does do it's job! The only complaint would be for it to be heavier and not hollow. It does tend to blow around a bit in the wind and I'm concerned it will break easily. Otherwise, it's a great product!

Also good for racoons
Most of the posts are about scarring ducks away, but I use it to keep racoons out of the pool. I live in South Florida, where racoons are common. Apparently racoons like to wash their food before eating (which is funny considering they just took it out of the garbage). The steps of my pool are a great place to wash food. They also tend to eat the food right where the wash it. In addition, racoons must have a very fast digestive system, as they also crap when they eat. You guessed it, racoon crap on my pool steps. I have a full size, realistic, alligator that sits on the pool deck, but unless I move it every couple of days; the racoons fiqure out the gator is no threat. This floating decoy seems to do the trick. Since it moves (floats) in the dark water (racoons are nocternal), while the eyes reflect lights from house; racoons seem to avoid it. I know the racoons are still visiting the area (I see the small little clues left), but they seem to avoid the pool. Great little tool. You should consider selling on "Pest Control" sites. I stumbled on this after lots of searching. If pest control site had this as a racoon solution, these would sell more.

Eyes are stickers, not painted on
The eyes are stickers. They are not painted on. I don’t expect them to last through the summer. Maybe they will??

Fun addition to our pond
We purchased this for our large koi pond because I had seen a great blue heron in our neighborhood. Our pond is fairly well hidden by redwood trees so I don't know if the heron even knew it was there, but I thought this alligator head could be a fun deterrent. I have know idea if it works as a deterrent, but a month later we still have all of our fish.Whether or not it is a deterrent, we have enjoyed having it in our pond. It's a fun conversation piece when friends come over. Our kids have named it and treat it as a kind of pet (very low maintenance!). And when my mother-in-law visited, she thought it was a real alligator! (Yes, it does look realistic, but I think this speaks more about my mother-in-law. I mean, come on - we live in California!)We've only had it a month, but the head is still in good condition. The eyes are very reflective. I would absolutely recommend this if you want a fun, realistic alligator head to decorate your pond, pool, garden, or anywhere else you think an alligator head might be appropriate.
