Solved the problem and was easy to fit
My cistern kept overflowing after each flush because the diaphragm was not shutting off the flow (it had lost its elasticity). This overflow then trickled into the toilet bowl wasting water and making a noise. I was initially skeptical about this replacement piece working as it didn't look like the rubber diaphragm I took out of my cistern. My existing diaphragm had a red piece in the top and was ribbed all the way around. But I thought, for £3.99, it was worth a go. This diaphragm arrived in good time, was easy to fit and worked perfectly. Best £3.99 I have ever spent (excluding beer purchases, naturally).

Overpriced but works
Easy to install - don’t be afraid to use a little force to twist off the cap. The valve works by balancing the incoming water and air that is bunged by the float through the lever arrangement. If you find the replacement is working but still not working well, try adjusting the float level

replaces original ribbed fill valve
Purchased to replace an Ideal Standard fill valve which was ribbed with a red insert. After reading many reviews which said this replacement would work I purchased it as I could not find one like the original.Fitted and it works perfectly, I did have to adjust the fill float as it overfilled, but once that was done no more overfilling caused by damaged valve. With the original valve, I did try gluing over the small 'pin prick' hole causing the leak, that held up for a day then overfilling occurred again. I did wonder afterwards if bicycle tyre puncture repair rubber solution may have repaired to hole better and last longer! (just for anyone reading this, may help!!)

Worked perfectly
The original diaphragm had the red plastic, but apparently this denotes the year of manufacture and the newer ones are white. The ribbed original confused me at first, but it just forms over time. This fitted perfectly and solved the overflow issue.

New Univalve QT lasted 5 months, not a patch on the original which lasted for years!
Can see why some sellers offer multipacks of the QT Univalve, you will need them at every 5 month intervals.

Cistern inlet washer
Easy to fit but ensure the washer raised inner rim fits snugly into the recessed part of the valve.
