Llama Llama Misses Mama

Best book for introducing a child to preschool
The book is about Llama llama who goes to school for the first time, and he misses mama. He holds it together for a while then starts crying. He is reminded that his "mama will come right back to you." Later, the other students win him over and he makes friends and plays together and has so much fun he almost does not notice that his mother has returned. When he sees her rushes over with a "Mama llama, you came back!", acknowledging that she did what she and the teacher promised, she came back.My two year old son just started preschool and a few weeks before the start of class I bought this book and read it to him. He doesn't talk that well yet, but he did memorize the phrases, "Miss mama", and "Mama come back to you!" When he started preschool, he cried a lot (it's his first time away from home) but when I came to pick him up he would repeat the line from the book, "Mama come back to you." I think the book really helped him prepare him for preschool (a fun place but you might feel sad that mama isn't there with you), and helped him process his fears and anxieties during the first few weeks of school. I highly recommend using this book to prepare a young child for school. On top of that, the drawings are just adorable. The faces and expressions are right on, especially Llama llama's little pout. The rhymes are well done, the story cute, and the lesson it teaches is great.Nowadays whenever my son hears a baby crying, he turns around and says, "Mama come back to you!" He thinks it is the way to soothe every baby's fears.

Great book for starting school or day care or going back to school after break
This is such a great book about hard feelings surrounding going back to school and being away from home! We read this every year as my daughter always has a rough few weeks back, and its a great help.

Great book to read to your toddler before starting preschool
We have our toddler starting preschool soon and he loves stories. Been reading this book to him for over a month now and he's starting to talk about how he is starting preschool soon just like Llama Llama. Hopefully it helps with the first day drop off!

Great Book
This was a good book. We enjoyed it. We've not yet read it to our granddaughter but anticipate that it will help as she prepares for her first day of school.

Perfect for separation anxiety
I bought this book to help my daughter prepare to go to preschool. This book along with Daniel Tiger goes to school was probably the best for my daughter. My focus was to have a book that 1) helped alleviate separation anxiety, 2) show what happens at preschool & 3) is fun to read. This book hit all the marks and here’s why:1. Main focus is on Llama Llama’s separation anxiety taking a toll on him at school.-it’s realistic of a child’s feelings and I think it helped my daughter relate to the character.-helped her see him progress through the story and eventually find school fun.-also, it was important to see his mom return at the end2. Accurate preschool activities.-great for prepping my child for her first day at school and making school look fun.-goes through introducing yourself to your teacher, making new friends, reading, indoor activities, outdoor play, & lunch time3. Well written story.-loved the rhyming flow of the book. It made it fun to read aloud.-emphasized Llama’s emotions which I think children can relate to; feeling very sad and not wanting to play to feeling happy and having fun.

Great book for toddlers/children starting school
We got this book for my toddler (1.5 yrs old) who was starting daycare, as we wanted to introduce the idea of school and having to be separated from mama. Although he may not have understood the book fully at the beginning, he loved the rhyming and illustrations of various animals in the book. Overall, its a cute little book for toddlers and children, and my child now loves and asks for this book to be read regularly.

The only thing, which helped
This book worked like a magic. My little one started nursery and she was crying every day at the drop off. When the book arrived, we read it like 6 times. She was so compassionate with little llama and next day she was crying only a bit at home and from second day on, she didn’t cry anymore. She understood that mama always comes back! We still read the book when returning to nursery after long time at home, and it helps immediately. I recommend it to all my friends.

Excellent For Children
My child was very hesitant about starting school and I believe reading this book every so often in the months before he started really helped. its a lovely little storey and a great addition to the other Llama Llama books.

I wish I could give 10 stars!
This book was an absolute godsend for our family. My 2-year-old was struggling with separation anxiety and not settling well in preschool. I found this book on a Google search and decided to try it. After reading it just once his attitude toward school dramatically improved. With regular reading over several weeks, he finally settled into his school and was happy to go each day. The most important concepts this book taught him:1. It’s ok to feel sad and miss your Mama at school.2. When you feel sad, the teacher and other children will stay with you and help you through it.3. Mama ALWAYS comes back to get you.I’d give it 10 stars if I could! Highly recommended!
