The testimony of the dog-eared...
Falling-apart pages bound by a rubber band are a testimony. The true test of the usefulness of a book is simply...how many times one uses it. My first one was in pieces by the time I bought the Kindle version. This book is an essential piece of my ministry. I support a diverse faith population in California and it is immensely useful to have a handy guide with me. It is my (very) small and secret weapon when I walk into a room.During my hospital residency, on one of my first on call overnights, I received the most dreaded call for any intern chaplain–a fetal demise. I made a prayer for the parents that was needed and appropriate for a Hindu father and an orthodox Christian mother...over a beautiful full term baby girl. From this beautiful little book I got the true and useful phrase..."WHEN HELLO IS ALSO GOODBYE..." It was powerful and around it, I built the small ceremony that morning in their hospital room.I highly recommend Matt Sander's collection of prayers and readings as a must have for any Interfaith healthcare spiritual care offering.Rev. Invaluable resource for hospital chaplains and chaplain interns
I use this book daily in my CPE internship in palliative care hospital chaplaincy. It's the perfect size to tuck into a chaplain's bag, and it is very well-organized. The resources cover a wide range of traditions and circumstances--everything from a blessing for a healthy baby to prayers for removal of life support. The faith traditions are represented in a comprehensive and respectful way, though some are better met than others (the "Native American prayer" section, with just two entries, is very slim and does not begin to approach even a cursory representative survey of prayers from this vast tradition). I have used the blank pages and spaces in the book to write in prayers and resources I've found helpful, and I imagine others probably do the same.Health care chaplaincy is an interfaith environment in which all chaplains need to be prepared to meet patients, families, and other health care providers just where they are in their spiritual journeys. This little book by the very generous Matt Sanders is a lovely tool for doing our work. Thank you, Matt. Namaste.

Great resource for chaplains
I'm a hospice chaplain for a diverse group of patients from many different religions. This not only gives readings and prayers, but a summary of worldview and how the different religions approach death and suffering. There are various readings. There are those that are "generic" that could be read in any religion. There are those that are very specific to a specific religion and may cause a struggle for the reader. However, there are enough readings in each included religion that are "generic" to where no chaplain would really have a strain of conscience reading for a patient.

Good companion for this Hospice Chaplain
As a hospice chaplain I find myself in many environments for spiritual care. This is a good reference. Although none are truly exhaustive, this is a good one to have handy. I also have utilized selective reading for devotional material with the care team. It’s a bump up from the one I was previously using.

A must for every Minister/Chaplain's library
This little book offers much in the way of guidance and prayer for many different faiths with no apologetics. The material contained within helpful, easy to find and to the point without awkward preface. A must for every minister/chaplain's library. I am only sorry that a hardback edition was not available.

I recommend this highly for hospital Chaplains and CPE residents
This book is extremely helpful to me as a hospital chaplain in one of the most diverse counties in the USA. I have it as a Kindle e-Book on my phone which means it is available for EVERY visit. The Muslim section is a bit shorter than the Jewish, Christian or Buddhist sections, but it is still very helpful. I recommend this highly for hospital Chaplains and CPE residents.
